At The Movies

Armored
A crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist against their own company. Armed with a seemingly fool proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and all bets are off.

On DVD

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
The stakes are higher in this sequel, where even the paintings on the Smithsonian walls come to life at night. Ben Stiller is his capable deadpan self as the now successful Larry who finds purpose again while helping his friends, and Amy Adams is spot on as feisty, adventure seeking Amelia Earhart, complete with period lingo. Hank Azaria is a scene stealer as Kahmunrah, who is menacing despite his lisp. Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Robin Williams, and Ricky Gervais also reprise their roles, which is the first film to be shot at the Smithsonian.

The Buzz...

Running on the sheer momentum of its massive opening, New Moon soared past the $200 million mark on its eighth day of release and, in the process, eclipsed predecessor Twilight, which had a final haul of $192.8 million. That, of course, also made it the biggest vampire movie on record, but it did fall 70 percent, the steepest second weekend Thanksgiving drop ever surpassing Twilight's 62 percent.

Mariah Carey is releasing a remix version of her album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel. The album will include new versions of each track from Memoirs as well as new songs. T-Pain, R. Kelly and Gucci Mane will collaborate with Mimi. The disc is set to drop some time in February of next year and will be available only at Target.

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have split. No further details were given. Witherspoon, 33, and Gyllenhaal, 28, costarred in the 2007 movie Rendition, after which rumors started flying about them as an off screen couple.

Taylor Lautner has been booked to host Saturday Night Live. The New Moon star will host the show on December 12th with musical guest Bon Jovi. His rumoured girlfriend Taylor Swift hosted earlier this month and playfully blew a kiss and waved to him during her monologue.

The fourth time just might be the charm for Tom Arnold, who wed Ashley Groussman in an intimate ceremony in Maui. More than 75 family and friends attended the ceremony at Shep and Renee Gordon's home, including actor Dax Shepard, who served as Arnold's best man.

Probably Hollywood’s most anticipated post Avatar blockbuster, The Hobbit looks like it is going to be slow off the starting blocks. According to Gandalf himself, Sir Ian McKellen, the shoot was originally expected to be underway in Spring 2010. Now Peter Jackson has given a more conservative estimate of starting in the middle of the year, quashing any hopes of getting our hands on any casting notes or on set pics for a few more months.

The so called "other woman" who supposedly sparked Tiger Woods's accident has hired a high profile celebrity lawyer and issued an adamant denial about any relationship with the golfing champ. "I did not have any involvement with him [Woods]," Rachel Uchitel told E! News. "Whatever was written in the Enquirer was not said by me, it was said by two people that claimed they were friends of mine, but they're not."

Paramount Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Area 51, reteaming with filmmaker Oren Peli for his follow up to the low budget haunted house "found footage" indie Paranormal Activity. Peli shot the film, another found video thriller, last month in Utah with three virtually unknown actors. The film was shot for just under $5 million, and Paramount made a high seven figure commitment. Area 51 which has been described as a “claustrophobic terror”, centers around "three teenagers whose curiosity leads them to the legendary and mysterious Area 51 Air Force base deep in the Nevada desert."

The Amazing Race 16 is now in production, and Big Brother 11 winner Jordan Lloyd and her quasi showmance Jeff Schroeder are among the contestants.

Shakira is giving up and coming musicians the shot of a lifetime. The singer is launching a talent competition and the grand prize is opening for her on tour next year. Aspiring singers can soon apply by submitting videos to her website.

Alec Baldwin has claimed that he doesn't want to act anymore. The 30 Rock star added that he thinks his movie career has been a failure. Speaking to Men's Journal, he said: "I don't have any interest in acting anymore. Movies are part of my past. It's been 30 years. I'm not young, but I have time to do something else."

Susan Boyle has soared to the top of the Australian album chart with her debut I Dreamed A Dream. Boyle has already topped the chart in Ireland and the UK and is on course for record first week sales in the United States. I Dreamed A Dream sold over 410,000 in it's first week of release n the UK, making it the fastest selling album of the year so far. Elsewhere in the Australian album chart, Lady GaGa reaches number 5 with The Fame Monster and Rihanna's Rated R debuts at 15.

It looks as though Nine Inch Nails really is finished. The band has begun putting up their equipment on eBay to auction off. Says a post on the NIN website: “We’ve been going through the NIN touring and studio rigs and are getting rid of a large selection of gear and equipment the band is no longer in need of.”

Snoop Dogg is currently in talks with TV networks about launching his own late night talk show.

According to the singer’s goddaughter, Dione Bromfield, Amy Winehouse will launch a new tour September of next year. Earlier this fall, reps from Wino’s record label said they hope the singer will have her new album out sometime in 2010 as well. Amy has apparently been drug free for more than a year now.
