At The Movies

Year One
Jack Black and Michael Cera take a not at all historically correct romp through Biblical times in this Pythonesque survey of human history as seen through the eyes of two traveling bums. Zed and Oh are too lazy to be of any use to their village as hunters, so they are banished and forced to wander the world. Along the way they meet such epic characters as Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and Abraham. Will this pair of mismatched losers ever find a place to settle down, or for that matter, a girl to settle down with? Directed by Harold Ramis, the legend behind such comedy classics as Caddyshack and Stripes.

On DVD

Friday The 13th
Searching for his missing sister, Clay Miller heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake, where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins behind moss-covered trees. And that's not the only thing lying in wait under the brush. Against the advice of police and cautions from the locals, Clay pursues what few leads he has in the search for his missing sister, Whitney, with the help of Jenna, a young woman he meets among a group of college kids up for an all-thrills weekend. But they are all about to find much more than they bargained for. Little do they know, they've entered the domain of one of the most terrifying specters in American film history, the infamous killer who haunts Crystal Lake, armed with a razor-sharp machete, Jason Voorhees.

The Buzz..

The third place finisher from American Idol has a website out there selling his iconic specs for charity, but Danny Gokey is not actually affiliated with the site. Apparently, the Denver-based website called DannyGokeygear.com has struck a deal with FramesDirect to sell the type of glasses Danny Gokey sported on this past season of "American Idol" (Luxotica is the brand) and donate some of the proceeds to the Sophia's Heart Foundation. FramesDirect will donate 50% of the profits between May 24th and July 21st to the charity.

The Beast, a police drama that starred the ailing Patrick Swayze, will not return for a second season, A&E says. The series, which premiered in January, starred Swayze as Charles Barker, a rogue undercover FBI agent teamed up with rookie Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel). The series was filmed on location in Chicago. Reviews for the series were mixed and its audience averaged 1.3 million viewers through the 13 episodes, which concluded their run in April.

The White Stripes' 2007 tour of Canada will be spotlighted in a new documentary about the band. During the tour, the Stripes played essentially in every Canadian province and territory, as well as unusual surprise gigs on a boat or at a school.

The reunited Limp Bizkit made their live return at the U.K.'s Download festival over the weekend and said they are hoping to release a new album before the end of the year. "We're getting together our demos right now and we're going to go in and record them," stated frontman Fred Durst. "I'm having a great feeling about going in and doing our record, more than I have about any of our albums before. It's not going to be a watered down version of Limp Bizkit, it's going to be a more explosive, more addictive, more driven version of Limp Bizkit."

Zac Efron may be strutting his stuff in a remake of the 1977 disco dance movie Saturday Night Fever. Simon Cowell is reportedly trying to produce the film, and wants Efron to reprise John Travolta’s role of Tony Manero. Cowell is also reportedly in the hunt for Timbaland, who he hopes will do the soundtrack. Doesn’t Simon know that Zac has sworn off the musicals?

Metallica have been forced to reschedule their planned Ottawa appearance, but they're being very secretive as to why. The band had been set to play the Canadian city on October 29th but sent an e-mail to fans last night saying it's been pushed back five days to November 3rd. As for the reason, they simply say, "We're happy to report that it has nothing to do with oysters, but can only tell you right now that the date change is due to a scheduling conflict with a very cool event coming up around that time. We wanted to let you know about the new date in Ottawa ASAP, but we've been sworn to secrecy on all other fronts." You may recall that James Hetfield blamed some bad oysters for the illness that forced him to miss a planned Stockholm show earlier this year. To make up to Ottawa fans for the inconvenience of rescheduling, everyone who attends the November 3rd show will receive a certificate for a free MP3 download of the concert. In the meantime, the band are promising more details on the secret "very cool event" in mid to late July.

Tracks from Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown will be released for Rock Band, with more Green Day songs for the video game on the way soon. A three-pack of 21 Guns, Know Your Enemy and East Jesus Nowhere will be available July 7. "We are excited to be working with MTV and Harmonix," said Billie Joe Armstrong. "They are leaders and visionaries in the world of music and video games, and Rock Band is a really cool way for fans of all ages to experience our music."

Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in an untitled pitch by Brian Koppelman and David Levien which is set in the world of Costa Rica based online casino gaming sites. Koppelman and Levien have penned Rounders and Ocean's Thirteen.

Hugo Weaving will be returning to The Hobbit and its sequel as Elrond. Guillermo Del Toro will be directing the two Hobbit films which are being planned for a Christmas 2011 and 2012 release. Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen will be reprising their roles from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy and it is expected that Viggo Mortensen will be back as well.

J.J. Abrams, director of Mission: Impossible 3 and Star Trek, tells TV Guide that Tom Cruise has invited him to produce Mission: Impossible 4. It is unclear whether Abrams would direct M:I 4 as well. "I'm incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission: Impossible 4," he tells the publication. "Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we're pursuing."

The Hills star Audrina Patridge is the latest bikini clad reality TV star to pose with a hamburger, of all things. Patridge appears in the latest ad for burger chain Carl’s Jr. She’s featured rolling around on the beach while trying to eat a hamburger larger than her head. As you may remember, Paris Hilton was previously featured in ads for the fast food restaurant several years ago, of course wearing a bikini and soaping up a Bentley.

Who said rock’n’roll is a guy thing? Well to those who still think it is, Girls Rock Camp is looking to break down the boundaries that plague music with a unique experience for young females between the ages of 8 and 18. Having a successful run for 8 years now in Portland, as well as a documentary titled Girls Rock! The Movie, Girls Rock Camp is now crossing the border for a summer series throughout 19 Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Victoria and Peterborough.

School’s out for Nick Jonas, as he officially graduated from high school last week.

Reality TV star Heidi Montag has reportedly posed for the September issue of Playboy. Which I guess wouldn't be such a stretch if you've seen her music video Blackout. Heidi and her hubby Spencer just dropped out of the reality show I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here due to Heidi's poor health.

Sean Penn will not be one of the The Three Stooges or join Cartel. A spokeswoman for the Oscar winner said he is dropping out of the films. Penn spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum did not specify a reason, but said if the start dates on the productions were to be postponed, Penn would remain involved. Penn was slated to star as Larry in Three Stooges and as a man protecting his son in Cartel.
