At The Movies

Shazam!
We all have a superhero inside of us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14 year old Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi). Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do, have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities. A fun super hero romp that is a refreshing break from some of the dark comic book movies that have been released by DC.

On DVD

Bumblebee
On the run in the year of 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle scarred and broken. A Transformers Spin-off which sets the movie franchise back on its true path reminding us of the film's motto with humour, action and nostalgic '80s plot setting.

The Buzz...

The first footage of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker premiered during the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon and quickly set the film world ablaze on social media. Phoenix’s turn as the character is portrayed as a failed stand up comedian who gets seduced into Gotham’s criminal underworld in the early 1980s.

Warner Bros. used its CinemaCon presentation to tout Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep, based on the novel by Stephen King that serves as a sequel to the author’s iconic The Shining.

The final spot for the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame dropped just as advance tickets went on sale — and the result was numerous sites, including AMC, being clogged with traffic.

The Bad Moms cinematic universe continues to grow. STX Films is revisiting its franchise with Bad Moms’ Moms. The film will presumably focus on the grandmother characters who were first introduced in 2017’s A Bad Moms Christmas, and who were played by Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines. The three women will reprise their roles.

The Justice Department has warned the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that its potential rule changes limiting the eligibility of Netflix and other streaming services for the Oscars could raise antitrust concerns and violate competition law.

Kevin Hart received this year’s CinemaCon International Star of the Year award at the convention’s awards show on Thursday at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.

Graham Norton has been named the host of this year's BAFTA Television Awards. The comedian and talk show host will return to present the awards at the ceremony May 12 at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

There are two types of people in this world: 'N Sync fans or Backstreet Boys fans. 'N Sync member Lance Bass' new documentary, The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story, premieres on YouTube Originals on April 3, and features members of multiple boy bands and their families documenting the devastation and deceit they experienced during their time working with former manager Lou Pearlman, their father figure turned enemy.

Cheaters is crowdfunding for its upcoming season, and there are some career changing perks for anyone willing to invest in the reality TV show. We've learned the hidden camera show is getting creative in order to fund its 19th season, and it's looking to raise $1 million from fans and investors to help produce 40 to 60 episodes.

Another JAG alum is set to reprise her role on the CBS offshoot NCIS: Los Angeles this season. Catherine Bell, who starred as Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie on the original series, will reprise her role in a guest appearance in the NCIS: LA season finale on Sunday, May 19. She joins her longtime co-star David James Elliott, who was announced to be reprising his “JAG” role in a multi-episode arc last week.

Blind Date is getting a modern-day reboot, courtesy of Bravo. The original Blind Date, which ran for for 10 syndicated seasons from 1999 to 2006, used hidden cameras to film two strangers, who were fixed up by the show, as they embarked on their first date.

Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has signed a big new deal with Warner Bros. TV, which produces both series. The multi-year agreement locks in Aguirre-Sacasa at the studio into the 2020s.

Lena Waithe and Halle Berry’s comedy series Boomerang is one of two shows that have been picked up for a second season at BET.
