At The Movies

Apollo 11
Apollo 11 is a cinematic space event film fifty years in the making. Featuring never before seen large format film footage of one of humanity's greatest accomplishments. This footage and audio recordings take you straight into the heart of NASA's most celebrated mission as astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin embark on a historic trip to the moon. The film consists solely of archival footage shot in 70 mm film that was previously unreleased to the public, and does not feature narration or interviews.

On DVD

Ralph Breaks The Internet
Video game bad guy Ralph (John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the World Wide Web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope's video game, "Sugar Rush." In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet, the netizens, to help navigate their way, including an entrepreneur named Yesss, who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend making site BuzzzTube.

The Buzz...

The 2019 box office has finally received a jolt of energy with an impressive, $55.5 million debut for DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The performance led the weekend box office, closing out the final weekend within what has been a rough start to the first two months at the domestic box office this year.

Taylor Swift may have skipped the 2019 Oscars, but she's stirring up quite the drama online. Swifties are speculating on Twitter that the reputation singer is planning to release her rumored TS7 album soon. After the star studded awards show, fans quickly noticed Taylor cryptically and subtlety posting photos on social media in reference to the number seven.

Cobie Smulders has been cast in the lead role of the ABC drama pilot inspired by the graphic novel Stumptown. The project follows Dex Parios (Smulders), a strong, assertive, and unapologetically sharp-witted army veteran working as a P.I. in Portland, Oregon. With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people’s messes with a blind eye toward her own.

A Gremlins animated series is in development at WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service. The potential series is said to be a period piece that would follow Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played in the films by Keye Luke, as a young man as he goes on adventures with the friendly Mogwai Gizmo.

Queen, with singer Adam Lambert, opened the Academy Awards Sunday night with a powerful, abridged version of the group’s 1977 double sided single, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions.

Fresh of a posthumous Best Rock Performance Grammy for When Bad Does Good, there's further Chris Cornell news. Brad Pitt and director Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) are at work producing a Chris Cornell documentary. Cornell’s widow, Vicky, has given the project her blessing and has signed on as a producer.

The Motley Crue biopic, The Dirt, based on Neil Strauss & Nikki Sixx’s book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, will arrive on Netflix on March 22. The new trailer is available to watch online and it has Crue fans ready to rock out to the flick.

The ratings for the 2019 Oscars telecast are up slightly from last year in the preliminary numbers. The awards show, which went without a host this year, drew a 20.1 rating in metered market households, up approximately 6% from the 18.9 last year’s telecast drew.

Hugh Jackman’s first world tour will be coming to Australia in August, with special guest appearances from actor and singer Keala Settle, who played the bearded woman in 2017’s Jackman starring The Greatest Showman. The Australian actor will be accompanied by an orchestra and special guests during the global arena tour, in which he will perform songs from The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables and other moments from his Broadway career.

Alita: Battle Angel may have topped the box office when it debuted in theaters over a week ago, but it certainly wasn’t a box office haul to brag about. However, the film’s performance in international markets, especially China, has the 20th Century Fox release looking a little more favorable.

New ABC series Whiskey Cavalier aired a sneak peek after the Oscars on Sunday, bringing in 4.17 million total viewers.

Jimmy Smits is returning to his roots. The actor has been tapped to star in NBC’s legal drama pilot, Bluff City Law. Smits will play Elijah Strait, the legendary defense lawyer from Tennessee who is well-known to all in the Memphis community. He joins Caitlin McGee on the pilot, who will play his daughter.
