At The Movies

Serenity
Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain who leads tours off of the tranquil enclave of Plymouth Island. His peaceful life is soon shattered when his ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway) tracks him down. Desperate for help, Karen begs Baker to save her, and their young son, from her violent husband. She wants him to take the brute out for a fishing excursion, then throw him overboard to the sharks. Thrust back into a life that he wanted to forget, Baker now finds himself struggling to choose between right and wrong.

On DVD

First Man
On the heels of their six time Academy Award winning smash, La La Land, Oscar winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

The Buzz...

The Netflix movie Bird Box was, as Kim Kardashian learned pretty quickly, an instant hit. In fact, it has allegedly been watched by 80 million people since the first four weeks following its release. But one person who has not tuned in is Sarah Paulson, who just happens to be one of the movie's stars.

On the same night that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was collecting the Producers Guild award for top comedy series, the show received a more elusive honor: a parody short on Saturday Night Live. Rachel Brosnahan hosted the show and appeared as her award winning title character for the spoof, The Raunchiest Miss Rita, which is set at the smoke filled Gaslight Cafe.

Blac Chyna had the LAPD at her home after a call came in alleging Chyna was intoxicated and neglecting her child. Law enforcement sources tell us an anonymous person called in Sunday night and stated Chyna was drunk at her home. The caller claimed Chyna was in such bad shape, she couldn't properly care for her daughter, Dream Kardashian. Cops went to Chyna's house and determined everything was fine, nobody was drunk, and Dream was being properly cared for.

Lady Gaga went scorched earth on Vice President Mike Pence and his wife over the weekend, calling them terrible representations of what it means to be Christian.

Steve Guttenberg is a married man. The Three Men and a Baby star, 60, married CBS tv’s Living Large reporter Emily Smith during a small, intimate ceremony in Malibu, California. Guttenberg and Smith met on a blind date after being set up by WCBS-tv’s Scott Rapoport in 2014. It took two months for the pair to meet, but they hit it off after just an hour when they met for drinks. A year later, the couple moved in together.

On a night that could have profound implications for a tight Oscar race, Green Book was named the best-produced film of 2018 at the 30th Annual Producers Guild of America Awards.

Gillian Anderson is set to star as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of The Crown. The X-Files star has been signed up to play the Iron Lady, although viewers will likely have to wait more than a year to see her on screens as the third season of the Left Bank drama has yet to air.

Andy Vajna, executive producer of several Rambo films as well as Total Recall and several Terminator movies, has died at 74.
