Crank: High Voltage
Hitman Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is kidnapped by a mysterious
Chinese mobster. Three months later, he wakes up to discover his nearly
indestructible heart has been surgically removed and replaced with a battery
operated ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity in order to work.
After a dangerous escape from his captors, Chev is on the run again, this time
from the charismatic Mexican gang boss El Huron and the Chinese Triads, headed
by the dangerous 100 year old elder Poon Dong. Once again turning to Doc Miles
for medical advice and re-connecting with his girlfriend Eve, who is no longer
in the dark about what he does for a living, Chev is determined to get his real
heart back and wreak vengeance on whoever stole it, embarking on an electrifying
chase through Los Angeles where anything goes to stay alive.

The Reader
When he falls ill on his way home from school, 15 year old Michael Berg (Ralph
Fiennes) is rescued by Hanna (Kate Winslet), a woman twice
his age. The two begin an unexpected and passionate affair only for Hanna to
suddenly and inexplicably disappear. Eight years later, Michael, now a young law
student observing Nazi war trials, meets his former lover again, under very
different circumstances. Hanna is on trial for a hideous crime, and as she
refuses to defend herself, Michael gradually realizes his boyhood love may be
guarding a secret she considers to be more shameful than murder.

Hurt must have a thing for taking on heroes in green. Hurt, who co
starred as General Ross in The Incredible Hulk, has signed on to
Russell Crowe's untitled Robin Hood movie. Hurt will play the
Earl of Pembroke, a potential rival for the green clad outlaw.
TNT has let the ax fall on its freshman series Trust Me,
which failed to live up to the ratings standards of the cable channel's other
originals. The series, which starred Eric McCormack and Tom
Cavanagh as friends and colleagues at a Chicago ad agency, has officially
been canceled. Trust Me premiered to 3.4 million viewers on Jan. 26. That's
usually a pretty decent number for a cable series, but in this case Trust Me
lost about half the audience from its lead in, an original episode of The
Closer.
Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman is exploring revenue sources,
which may include a reality TV show. Suleman probably will sign a deal very soon
to feature her and her family of 14 children. Going "real" may have everything
to do with the need for cash. Earlier this week, Suleman said she is
contemplating applying for federal assistance to feed her brood. The show would
revolve around Suleman doing daily activities like learning to drive a passenger
van, going on a date or family holidays. But production would not start until
the babies are older.
Eminem will be
performing at the MTV Movie Awards on May 31. His
performance comes just days after the release of his new album Relapse.
No word on whether he'll be performing his single We Made You, which
could potentially insult most of the people in the audience at the show.
Twilight sequel New Moon has added a new vampire to its
roster. Actor Michael Sheen, best known for his work in
Frost/Nixon, will be commandeering the bad-ass vamps as leader of the
Vulturi. New Moon is due out in November.
One of Spider-Man's greatest enemies may get the spotlight to itself.
Sources say writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick,
late of the upcoming horror/comedy Zombieland, have been hired by Sony to
write a movie centered on Marvel Comics villain Venom. As
portrayed in Spider-Man 3, Venom is a dark version of Spider-Man created by the
symbiosis of an alien life form and a human host (in this case, rival writer
Eddie Brock). No word on a plot, or whether the stars of the first three
Spider-Man films will appear.
There's nothing official, but word has been circulating on the Internet that
Weezer will be the opening act on Blink 182's upcoming reunion tour.
The story quotes an unnamed "informed source" as saying the double bill is a go
for this summer. So far, however, there's no word from either band.
Court records show Mel Gibson's wife has filed for divorce after 28 years
of marriage. Robyn Gibson filed the petition in Los Angeles,
citing irreconcilable differences. The petition doesn't give any details about
the split. Robyn Gibson is seeking jewelry and some other property, and has
suggested joint custody for their 9 year old son.
Jay-Z has orchestrated a deal with Iconic Fragrances (his licensing
company) and Parlux Fragrances to create new scents for both Kanye
West and Rihanna. Parlux has a track record for celeb fragrance lines
including Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Queen
Latifah. Watch for Kanye and Rihanna's fragrances due in stores in 2010.
Barely a day after the daring rescue of an American sea captain, the Spike
television network has a deal in place for a show about U.S. Navy
pirate hunters. Producers had been talking to the Navy about it
for months. But the deal was sealed last week while the standoff with pirates
who had taken Capt. Richard Phillips hostage was ongoing. Spike television says
it hopes to make a series showing the everyday work of the Navy as it patrols
the dangerous waters off the African coast. No air date has been set.
The first song recorded by a reunited No Doubt has leaked. It's
called Stand and Deliver and is actually a cover of a song by Adam &
The Ants. No Doubt will perform the new-wave track on an upcoming episode of
Gossip Girl. The group will head out on tour next month then head
back to the recording studio to finish their new album.
Kanye West is creating a new energy drink for Guru. Kanye’s
new beverage will reportedly be 100% natural and organic. Kanye already has
music, fashion, art and design in his pocket, so we guess a drink was the next
logical step.
