G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite G.I. JOE
team uses the latest in next generation spy and military equipment to fight the
corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra
organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos. Duke and
Ripcord are two specially trained military operatives who join an elite
international team called G.I. Joe. This highly skilled unit works under the
radar, answers to no one, uses the latest in ultra high tech equipment, and does
not accept failure as an option. Their current assignment will take them all
over the world as they go head to head with an infamous arms dealer known as
Destro and learn the dark truths behind the ominous new organization known only
as Cobra.

Race to Witch Mountain
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as a Las Vegas taxi driver who gets
himself into more than he bargained for when he picks up two teenage runaways,
Sara and Seth. Not only do the pair possess supernatural powers, they're
desperately trying to escape dangerous agents of the government, mobsters and
even extraterrestrials. Thrust into an unexplainable adventure, they discover
that the only chance to save the world lies in a secret place in the middle of
the Nevada desert: Witch Mountain.
The Buzz..
The future of
Futurama has been assured with the signing of the show's voice cast to
new deals. Comedy Central announced with much fanfare in June that
it had ordered new episodes of the well loved animated series, but the pickup
was announced before deals with actors Billy West, Katey
Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche and
Tress MacNeille were in place. Those deals finally got done over the
weekend, after producer 20th Century Fox TV had put out word that it was seeking
replacements for the cast.
While Steven Spielberg does some undercover work on remaking the
Matt Helm spy movies, he's got his eyes on another update. The
trades have confirmed Spielberg as director of Harvey, previously a 1950
Jimmy Stewart comedy about a drunk who claims an invisible rabbit
is his best friend. There's no word on how Spielberg plans to update the story
(especially after Donnie Darko's rather darker take on the concept) or
who might star. Filming is set to begin early next year.
Comedian Will Ferrell and director David Dobkin, who
signed on to Neighborhood Watch in May, have backed out. The movie
had already stalled in development, and the involvement of the successful duo (Dobkin
helmed the comedy Wedding Crashers) was seen as the shot in the
arm the project needed. The sci-fi comedy was to have followed Ferrell's
character, a newcomer who discovers the local neighborhood watch is involved in
an alien cover up.
Medium's move to CBS has given the show a sense of certainty it
didn't have in the past couple seasons at NBC, which is why you'll see
Patricia Arquette fighting off George Romero zombies
this fall. The show is working on a Halloween episode that will insert
Arquette's character, Allison Dubois, into scenes from Romero's classic horror
film Night of the Living Dead. Medium hasn't premiered earlier than mid
November since its second season, which didn't allow Caron and his team to do
time specific episodes like that.
AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson wants to retire, despite the
fact that the band have just kicked off a 27 date, sold out US tour of stadiums
and arenas. Although Johnson attempted to tender his resignation, his bandmates
persuaded him to put it off for now. As it currently stands, the singer will
stick with AC/DC until they fulfill festival obligations, which could last into
2011. The 61 year old Johnson admits he's no spring chicken, but he does his
level best to stay road tough: "I try to keep myself fit, and I love it being in
this band, but the other lads are in their early fifties. I'm the old dog in the
regiment."
The Pussycat Dolls are not breaking up says founder Robin
Antin. She says that recent rumours suggesting the girl group are packing
it in so head Doll Nicole Scherzinger can release her solo album
are not true. After the group performed in London last week, member Ashley
Roberts was tearful when she told reporters, "This is the last time we'll
be in the U.K. as a band. We've broken up. We're sorry."
Ridley Scott will return to the Alien franchise as a
director in a new film that will serve as a prequel to his 1979 film. Attempts
to make another Alien film since 1997's Alien Resurrection have
happened but nothing materialized outside of the two Alien vs. Predator
films.
Rob Marshall (Chicago) is the frontrunner to direct Pirates of
the Caribbean 4. Gore Verbinski directed the Pirates trilogy
but is stepping away for other projects. Walt Disney Pictures and producer
Jerry Bruckheimer, however, are eager to move forward with the next
installment with hopes that production can begin next year. So far, Johnny
Depp is the only person attached to star in the film. It is unlikely that
Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will return, as
the studio is looking for a more scaled down Pirates story this time around.
Dr. Seuss The Lorax is being turned into a 3D CG feature film which will
be released on March 2, 2012. The Lorax was published in 1971 and tells of a
greedy entrepreneur who strips a forest of its trees despite warnings from a
tree loving Lorax.
Bryce Dallas Howard will replace Rachelle Lefevre
in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Lefevre played the character of Victoria
in Twilight and the forthcoming sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Lefevre has cited "scheduling conflicts" for the reasoning behind her departure.
David Slade will be directing Eclipse early next year for a
holiday 2010 release. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson
and other cast members will be back.
Chris Brown made a surprise appearance filling in for the injured
Drake on the Young Money tour. The performance alongside
Lil Wayne was Brown’s first since pleading guilty to assaulting his former
girlfriend Rihanna in February. Not only did he help take over Drake's
parts, but he also attempted the moonwalk to Michael Jackson's Billie
Jean.
Green Day and Pink will be performing at this year’s MTV
Video Music Awards. Held in New York City on September 13th, celebrity
presenters added to the roster so far include Katy Perry, Ne-yo
and Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford. Russell Brand
will host the show for the second year in a row.
Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush are the latest
celebrity couple to call it quits. The reality TV star and the NFL star
have been dating since 2007 and reportedly split due to their busy schedules.
