At The Movies

I Love You, Beth Cooper
It's a classic tale of nerd meets girl, nerd loses girl, girl shows up unexpectedly at nerd's graduation party and takes him on a wild ride all over town. In this teen comedy, clueless valedictorian Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust) uses his high school graduation speech as a platform to announce his feelings for Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere), the most gorgeous girl in school. Imagine his shock when Beth shows up later that night at his house and gives him a night he'll never forget. The screenplay is based on a prize winning novel by the same name.

Knowing
Nicolas Cage stars as a college professor who uncovers a dark, startling secret in a time capsule buried at his son's elementary school. It contains a coded document accurately predicting the details of every major disaster of the past 50 years -- including three cataclysmic events that have not yet occurred. With time running out, he sets out to prevent these deadly prophecies from coming true. A great first half overcomes the confusing and weak ending.

The Buzz..

In a case of life imitating art, Jenna Fischer, who plays the marriage bound Pam Beesly on The Office, is engaged.

The men responsible for seeing Lost through to the end of its run say the show's finale will be its finale in all forms of media. Speaking at a BAFTA event in London, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse promised that the show will end by answering as many questions as possible. Lindelof also said he doesn't want to extend the story in a movie, comic books or anywhere else.

The new judge on American Idol Kara DioGuardi has wed fiancee Mike McCuddy in Prospect Harbor, Maine. The bride wore a Vera Wang gown and the ceremony took place in the United Methodist Church in front of only 30 or so guests. DioGuardi has a home in Prospect Harbor and it is there where she met now husband McCuddy. He was the contractor working on the home next to hers. McCuddy has a young daughter, so the 38 year old songwriter is now a stepmom.

The cast of 90210 continues to grow for season two. The latest addition? Bruce and Demi's oldest daughter, Rumer Willis. Willis will appear on "at least one episode" of the show next season, says Access Hollywood. She'll be playing a "punky cute lesbian" named Gia who works on the West Bev newscast, Blaze News, with Adrianna, Navid and Silver. She joins fellow newbie Trevor Donovan, who'll be a regular on the show next season as the charming, handsome Teddy.

Paula Abdul says she's optimistic that she'll be able to negotiate a new contract to allow her to remain as an American Idol judge. She's been invited to stay for the duration of the show, subject to agreement on the details of a new deal. Her previous contract expired after last season.

Beyonce dedicated her song Halo to Michael Jackson when she performed at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Madonna also paid tribute to Jackson during her concert in London at the O2 Arena with an MJ impersonator and a medley of his hits.

Rihanna is in trouble for tattooing some friends at an NYC tattoo parlour. The singer was hanging out at East Side Ink, a spot where she’s known to get inked from time to time. An artist at the shop asked Rihanna to draw the letter "R" and an umbrella on him and then two other artists, which according to the NYC Health Department is a big no-no. The act violates a law that reads, "Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City's Health Code." Now the NYC Law Department is investigating the incident, which could result in three misdemeanour charges that would see Rihanna paying hundreds of dollars for each offense.

Kanye West has been working with the Gap. Or make that, at the Gap. The fashion forward hip hop superstar has been spending his free time interning at the famed clothing retailer. Following stints working for elite fashion designers Louis Vuitton and Raf Simons, Yeezy is now learning the art of folding khakis. Gap confirmed the story, telling StyleList, "Kanye's been spending time working in Gap's offices, working with [designer] Patrick Robinson, as he's interested in gaining more firsthand experience of the fashion industry."

Pearl Jam and Billy Talent have just been announced as headliners for the Alberta leg of the Virgin Festival on the August 8-9 weekend.

Drake has been in the midst of a label bidding war since becoming this year’s hottest new rapper.

Universal Pictures has won the bidding rights for an Asteroids film adaptation from Atari. The 2D game was released in 1979 and quickly became a classic video game hit.

The Predator reboot now has a director and it's Nimrod Antal (Vacancy). Antal will ready the picture for a July 7, 2010 release. Alex Litvak and Michael Finch will pen the screenplay.

T.J. Hooker is headed to the bigscreen as an action comedy. The TV series debuted in 1982 and starred William Shatner. The new film adaptation will focus on the relationship between the title character and the father.

Casey Kasem has done his final countdown. The 77 year old DJ told American Top 20 listeners across the country Saturday that the program would be his last.

When Jay Leno's new 10 p.m. show goes on air in September, some of his vintage cars will be making guest appearances. The host intends to drive his prized possessions onstage some nights. The gambit is one reason NBC is using a larger venue than Leno has been accustomed to. Workers are busy customizing the soundstage once used by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Disney Channel sitcom Sonny With a Chance, both of which have moved out.

The Foo Fighters debuted a new song entitled Wheels as part of a short set at the White House's Independence Day festivities. Wheels is one of two new songs the Foos recently recorded with Butch Vig that will appear on the band's upcoming best of collection, due out sometime in November.
