The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
It's just another day for New York City subway dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel
Washington), until Ryder (John Travolta), a bitter ex-con,
hijacks one of the trains. Unless the city pays Ryder one million dollars within
the hour for each hostage on the train, he and his four armed accomplices will
execute them all. The mystery is where does Ryder plan to go once he gets the
money? Garber finds himself in an unlikely position of power, since he is the
only one who knows the subway system well enough to foil Ryder's plans.

Gran Torino
Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) is a widower, grumpy, tough minded,
borderline hateful, unhappy old man who can't get along with either his kids or
his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1973 Gran Torino
he keeps in cherry condition. When his neighbor Tao, a young Hmong teenager,
tries to steal his Gran Torino, Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn
against his will into the life of Tao's family, Kowalski is soon taking steps to
protect them from the gangs that foul their neighborhood.
The Buzz..
The canceled
comedy My Name Is Earl may not be dead after all, thanks to TBS.
The cable channel and 20th Century Fox TV, which produces the series, have
started talks on reviving the show. They're negotiating a 13 episode pickup for
the show, which ran for four seasons on NBC and was one of the more notable
cancellations at last month's upfronts. Rumors that another network would pick
up the show hadn't gone anywhere until now. Such a move would make sense for
TBS, which already produces several original comedies and runs repeats of Earl
on Monday nights. The show goes into daily syndication on TBS in the fall.
We love it when a plan comes together. Two big stars have officially put their
names into negotiations for roles in the movie version of The A Team.
Liam Neeson is in talks to play Col. John "Hannibal" Smith,
the cigar chomping team leader originally played by George Peppard.
Meanwhile, those rumors about The Hangover star Bradley
Cooper are true: Cooper is officially in talks for the part of Templeton
"Face" Peck. Dirk Benedict played master of disguise Peck on
the television series. Star Trek star Chris Pine,
meanwhile, is campaigning hard for the role of "Howlin' Mad" Murdock, the
team's resident pilot and madman.
There are three competing John DeLorean movies in the works. The
late swashbuckling auto executive developed the Pontiac GTO and
later attempted to launch his own brand, the DeLorean, made famous by Back to
the Future. Legal troubles including charges of cocaine smuggling (which he
eventually beat in court) dragged him down.
American Idol finalist Adam Lambert's sexuality has been quite the
hot topic this season but an interview with him in Rolling Stone
answers all the questions. American Idol’s glamtastic runner opens up in the
next issue of Rolling Stone, speaking frankly about his sexuality, though he
doesn’t think his revelation is particularly shocking. “I don’t think it should
be a surprise for anyone to hear that I’m gay,” Lambert says in the new issue
hitting newsstands this week. Lambert also admits to having a crush on Kris
Allen.
At least by her standards, Britney Spears has kept a relatively
low profile lately. That might not last too much longer. Topless pictures of the
pop star have popped up online, which is just about certain to thrust Spears
back into the spotlight, unwanted or not. The photos, on TMZ and a number
of other sites around the web, are are outtakes from the video shoot for her
song Gimme More two years ago. That's the one in which she dances
on a stripper pole, and the photos are essentially the R-rated version of what
you didn't see in the video.
Miley Cyrus has reportedly split from her model man Justin
Gaston. The pop sensation posted a cryptic message on her Twitter.com
blog last week, which read "my heart is in two... and its all because of you,"
which the teenage singer/actress passed off as "a song i am starting to write,"
but insiders claim it was a message to fans about her romance.
Kelly Clarkson blames the endless speculation about her sexuality for
ruining her love life insisting gay rumours put off potential boyfriends. The 27
year old singer has been single for several years, prompting Internet gossip
sites to suggest she may be hiding a secret girlfriend. But Clarkson insists she
is totally heterosexual and admits rumours about her sexual preference have made
it even harder for her to find a man.
Masi Oka (Hiro from TV's Heroes) has come up with an adventure
film project and will be exec producing his own idea. The film is titled The
Defenders and will be produced by Transformers writers Alex
Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Oka's idea came out of playing a
multiplayer online role-playing game and the story centers on a group of
teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game.
Each one is unaware of the other person and who they are behind their avatars
and in real life. They are forced to come together for a real adventure and
become heroes in the process.
Benjamin Button star Taraji P. Henson, who revealed she
will be playing the role of the mother in The Karate Kid
remake, which will begin shooting soon in China.
Universal and Illumination Entertainment have acquired the
film rights to the children's book series Where's Waldo? to turn into a
feature film and possible franchise. Martin Handford created the
series which shows complex illustrations of a vast number of people and it is up
to the reader to find Waldo in the crowd, who usually wears a red and white
outfit and large round glasses.
Gamers, be excited. The previously announced Guitar Hero offshoot, DJ
Hero, has been given a major boost with the announcement that both
Jay-Z and Eminem are heavily involved in the highly anticipated
project. Not only will their music be featured in the game, but now comes word
that the two rap superstars will serve as consultants to Activision and
the game's developer, FreeStyleGames.
David Letterman is near a deal to continue reading Top 10 lists on
CBS for another three years. The network is about to re-sign the Emmy
winning talk show personality to continue hosting Late Show until
2011-12. The agreement will represent a two-year extension on his current
contract, which expires in 2010.
Having just signed a deal with Disney for a fourth season of Hannah
Montana, Miley Cyrus is currently raking in the money with
the announcement that she will help design a clothing line for Wal-Mart.
Working with designer Max Azria of BCBG fame, Miley will
put her stamp on graphic tees, shoes, accessories, pants and tops all priced for
under $20.
