Slumdog Millionaire
The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is
about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching,
he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on
India's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? But when the show breaks for the night,
police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much?
Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum
where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of
vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost.
Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game
show's questions. Intrigued by Jamal's story, the jaded Police Inspector begins
to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for riches is really doing on
this game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final
question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out...
The Buzz..
Even though it
hasn't officially renewed Heroes yet, NBC has been assuring the
media that the superhero drama isn't going anywhere any time soon. At January's
Press Tour they went as far as to say that its future is "very secure." Which is
a bit of a puzzle. Obviously expensive to produce, the show lost its way
creatively in the second season. Viewers noticed and and its ratings quickly
suffered and have never returned to their first season levels.
Between continued reports of
unrest on the Grey's Anatomy set, comments made by a fellow cast
member and a storyline that has Katherine Heigl's character
riddled with cancer and facing a less than 5% survival rate, fans have pretty
much figured that Heigl will not be returning to the show next season. Not so
fast, says the actress. At a studio party celebrating the series' 100th episode,
Heigl says she herself isn't certain of Izzie's fate but that she's game for
more if the show's producers are.
Fans of Jon & Kate Plus 8 will get to see more of their favorite
multiples on TLC soon. The show about parents Jon and Kate Gosselin
raising their twins and sextuplets has pre-taped a few original episodes that
will air later this year. On Sunday, April 19 an hour-long special featuring the
Gosselins going green will air in advance of Earth Day. Other episodes will air
this summer. A fifth season, however, is still up in the air.
Vince Offer Shlomi, better known as the cartoonish
infomerical pitchman for ShamWow towels and the Slap Chop kitchen
utensils, allegedly did some chop-slapping of his own in Miami Beach last month.
The Smoking Gun has all the damning documents pertaining to his subsequent
arrest. According to Shlomi, 44, on Feb. 7 he met a prostitute named Sasha
Harris at a nightclub and pre-paid her $1,000 for "straight sex." When they
returned to his $750-a-night hotel room (those infomercials really pay well),
the couple began kissing when Harris suddenly bit Shlomi's tongue and "would not
let go." Shlomi then punched Harris several times in the face until she released
his tongue. He then ran from his room and to the hotel lobby where security
called the police. While both parties were arrested for felony aggravated
battery, prosecutors decided not to file formal charges.
Recent Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway is becoming a cartoon for the
second time, taping a guest spot on Family Guy for a future
episode. Hathaway has already done a Simpsons guest spot, playing a girl
Bart falls for in an episode scheduled to air April 19. Hathaway, who earned an
Oscar nod this year for Rachel Getting Married, popped into the FOX
lot recently to record her scene. Hathaway will be playing herself on the show,
and the story has her presenting an Oscar (to whom, we're not sure). Given the
long production schedule for animated shows, it's likely that Hathaway's cameo
wouldn't air until next season.
Sam Raimi, who created the low budget Evil Dead
series of horror films, is working on a fourth movie. While Raimi has often said
he'd like to reboot the series with a younger cast, his hope for Bruce
Campbell to return as Ash indicates this one may be a true sequel.
Judas Priest has a couple of interesting projects lined up for
later this year. The band will launch a month long U.S. tour July 1st in St.
Charles, Missouri with Whitesnake as the opening act. This will be a
special tour in that it will find Priest playing their album British
Steel in its entirety. Originally released in 1980, British Steel was one of
their most popular discs, featuring the hits Living After
Midnight and Breaking the Law.
Nickelback was a big winner at the 2009 Juno Awards, which
is Canada's version of the Grammys. The band won album of the year for Dark
Horse, as well as group of the year and Juno Fan Choice honors.
Nickelback kicked off the Vancouver ceremony with a performance of Something
in Your Mouth.
Kid Rock has lined up a gig at WrestleMania next month in
Houston. According to the WWE, he'll perform a medley of hits, including
Cowboy, Bawitdaba, Rock & Roll Jesus and So
Hott. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will
perform America the Beautiful to kick off the pay per view event, scheduled for
April 5th at Reliant Stadium.
Rapper Kanye West is planning an international tour to promote his
latest album 808's and Heartbreak. The tour is set to begin this
summer in Europe and arrive in North America by the fall. No dates are set as of
yet, but the rapper has revealed he’ll be collaborating with Spike
Jonze and the Jim Henson Company.
Green Day’s new album 21st Century Breakdown is coming out on May
15. It’ll be their eighth studio album, and their first since 2004’s American
Idiot.
Beyonce's I Am Tour kicked of in Edmonton yesterday. The popstar
performed in various outfits designed by fashion giant Thierry Mugler.
The tight-fitting designs with glitter and gold capture both the woman and
warrior that is Sasha Fierce. The designer is also the creative adviser on the I
Am Tour.
