Star Trek
From the first scene the Star Trek universe as we knew it has changed forever.
James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) is now an angry wayward young man
looking for trouble. He fights with Starfleet cadets in Iowa when a Capt. Pike
takes an interest in him, finding out he's the only 'genius level repeat
offender in the Midwest'. Pike dares Kirk to join Starfleet, goading him with
the legacy of his father. A young Spock (Zachary Quinto) is
tortured over his mixed heritage, the emotions he fights to control and the very
different paths he has before him. He must choose between the Vulcan world which
will never accept him as anything other than half human and Starfleet Academy,
worlds away from everything he has ever known. We meet Dr 'Bones' McCoy (Karl
Urban) and a young linguist Uhura (Zoe Saldana) at the
Academy and watch as a headstrong Kirk wreaks havoc on Starfleet's rules and
regulations. Kirk's antics culminate in his reprogramming the famous Kobayashi
Maru test and consequent disciplinary hearing. He comes face to face with the
scenario creator, Mr Spock. As this unfolds; a vicious Romulan from the future
is hell bent on vengeance upon 'Ambassador' Spock and nothing will get in his
way. The fleet is called to arms as peril aims at the heart of the Federation
and Kirk and Spock are irrevocably pulled together to save the galaxy for the
first time.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins The Curious Case of
Benjamin Button, adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald
about a man (Brad Pitt) who is born in his eighties and ages
backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his
story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st
century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.
The Buzz..
Need someone to
play a singer? Call in a singer. Christina Aguilera will play the
lead role in Burlesque. The plot follows your usual small town girl makes
good formula, with Aguilera's character moving to the big city and toplining
(after much drama, we're sure) at the titular venue. Shooting will begin later
this year.
The New Adventures of Old Christine could end up on a new network if its
old network decides it doesn't want the show anymore. The CBS sitcom once
again finds itself the object of affection at ABC. ABC has made a backup
deal with Christine producer Warner Bros. TV to pick up the series if CBS
decides to pass on a fifth season.
Disney Channel's Jonas debut blow out Saturday was strong,
but didn't bring the expected stellar ratings expected by those familiar with
the hoopla surrounding the Jonas Brothers and the likes of
Hannah Montana's Miley Cyrus. Jonas, which premiered
from 8-3:30 p.m. on May 2, was TV's No. 1 program for the night among the small
fry (kids 6-11, 1.6 million), tweens (kids 9-14, 1.6 million) and girl demos,
and earned Disney Channel its best ratings in the half hour in the past eight
months with 4 million total viewers.
The fates of Chuck and Law & Order may still be up in the air, but
NBC was definitive about one on the fence show. Life will not get
a third season. NBC is adding six new series to its lineup for next season, and
has confirmed new seasons for Heroes, Southland and Parks and
Recreation.
Pop punk Pink has taken to her Twitter.com page to brush off
reports she is bisexual, dismissing her alleged comments as "so 1991". Britain's
News of the World newspaper reported the So What hitmaker had 'come out',
confessing her sexuality in an interview with the publication. She was quoted as
saying: "I'm not embarrassed about being bisexual. This is who I am." Pink's
representative immediately blasted the comments, insisting they were "entirely
fabricated", and now the singer, whose real name is Alecia Moore,
has reached out to fans online to address the claims herself. And the pop star,
who has reunited with estranged husband Carey Hart, is secretly
happy to have made the headlines, so she can correct longstanding rumors
herself. She writes, "I just read that I'm bisexual. So 1991. Good thing people
write articles about me so I can get my facts str8 (straight).
Def Leppard will reissue two of their biggest albums, Pyromania
and Adrenalize, as double disc, deluxe edition sets June 23rd. One disc
will feature the original album with remastered sound while the second will be a
full disc of live tracks, demos, B sides and other goodies.
Kid Rock has decided to throw a weekend-long party in his hometown
of Detroit this summer. After 35,000 tickets for his Friday July 17th show at
Comerica Park sold out in just 27 minutes, he's decided to add a show
the following day. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Robert Randolph
will open the first of the gigs, but it will be Alice In Chains and
Cypress Hill warming up the crowds on Saturday. Fans won't have to
worry about throwing their own tailgate party before the gigs. Kid is taking his
party out into the streets around the park, where he'll stage chili cook-offs,
an auto show, and battles of the bands.
Halle Berry got real mad at the paparazzi over the weekend in Los
Angeles. Berry was trying to leave a restaurant with her daughter Nahla Ariela
and had trouble getting to her car because of the hoard of photographers waiting
to get shots of them. She thought it unsafe to make the trek to the car because
of her daughter. The police were finally called to escort them the few metres to
her car.
If you see Coldplay live in concert this summer, you'll also receive a
free live album from the band. Coldplay will give away a CD called
LeftRightLeftRightLeft to all fans who come to their summer tour. The nine
songs were recorded during their last Viva La Vida outing. The British blokes
will hit be hitting several Canadian cities, including Winnipeg, Calgary,
Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Singer Pink surprised thousands by appearing at London's Trafalgar Square
to karaoke as part of a mass publicity stunt. The pop star masked her identity
by wearing a hood, then revealed herself while singing the chorus of Janis
Joplin's Piece of My Heart.
Rihanna has shelved plans for a concert later this month in Dubai because
the timing was "inappropriate," a Middle East concert promoter said Tuesday.
Kevin Lyman has a pretty warped view of country music, and that
could be a good thing. The co-founder of the Vans Warped,
Rockstar Taste of Chaos and Rockstar Mayhem
tours now has his sights set on a similar tour focusing on country music:
multi-act, multistage, sponsor-driven and conservatively priced.
