Elio
Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic
misadventure where he must form new bonds with alien lifeforms, navigate a
crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant
to be. The animation is breathtaking, the characters are so well-written, and
the emotional beats hit hard without being overdone. Elio himself is instantly
endearing, and watching him navigate this wild, unexpected journey felt so
personal and universal at the same time. There's such a sense of wonder and
heart throughout the film-it's imaginative, funny, and deeply moving.

The Survivors (Netflix)
Fifteen years ago, a storm devastated the coastal town
of Evelyn Bay and took three young people: Kieran's
older brother, Finn, Mia's best friend, Gabby, and
Finn's friend, Toby. Burdened by guilt, Kieran and Mia
escaped. The script is intelligent and fresh, the
character development unexpectedly deep and affecting
and the whole thing is carried off quite expertly. It's
a story of loss and how a small town deals with its
grief. The family dynamics, the old friendships, the
aesthetic made this an enjoyable watch.
