At The Movies
Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere
Bruce Springsteen's journey crafting his 1982 album Nebraska,
which emerged as he recorded Born in the USA with the E Street Band.
Based on Warren Zanes' book. Jeremy Allen White
is excellent in this film and brings out the best in his character. The film
doesn't tell the same story as other films that focus on the artist's prime or
breakthrough, but it captures the essence of Springsteen's transformation.
That's what makes this film different and it does so well. It doesn't so much
tell the story of the Nebraska album as it uses the songs from the album to
represent who Bruce is. This is one of the best films of the year and White may
be in line for an Academy Award.

Dark Winds (AMC)
Follows Leaphorn and Chee, two Navajo police
officers in the 1970s Southwest that are forced to
challenge their own spiritual beliefs when they search
for clues in a double murder case. The show doesn't pull
any punches when it comes to showing the overt and
systematic racism faced by Native Americans in the
1970's (not to suggest it's strictly a thing of the
past), but so far it's not falling into the trap of
portraying the native people as 'noble savages,' either.
Well written, well acted and well paced.

Vicious (Paramount+)
A woman (Dakota Fanning) spends the night
fighting for her existence as she slips down a rabbit
hole contained inside a gift from a late night visitor.
This is an entreating and creepy entry in the
psychological thriller genre. Anyone who watches this
type of movie understands that not all questions will be
answered. It ihas plenty of jump scares and build up to
each event. It's an effective, psychological film, but
above all, it keeps you glued to the screen.
