Horsegirls
Written and directed by Lauren Meyering, this dramedy stars Lillian Carrier as Margarita, a 22 year old autistic woman navigating the transition into adulthood. As her mother (Gretchen Mol) battles an uncertain illness and she struggles with a new job, Margarita finds a lifeline in a competitive hobby horse dance team. The sport builds her confidence and helps her discover independence and community. Directed by Lauren Meyering in her feature debut, the film tackles themes of growing up and unconventional passions.

Shipwrecked: Nightmare At Sea (Netflix)
An immersive documentary on Netflix that chronicles the infamous 2012 sinking of the luxury cruise ship, the Costa Concordia. It features exclusive footage and harrowing survivor testimonies to recount the tragic events that unfolded off the coast of Italy. The luxury liner Costa Concordia set sail on a Mediterranean voyage with over 4,200 passengers and crew on board. The night took a catastrophic turn when the vessel took an impromptu detour and struck a rocky reef off the coast of Isola del Giglio. Instead of immediately alerting the coast guard, the captain and bridge crew initially downplayed the severity of the incident to the Italian Coast Guard. By the time the evacuation order was given, the ship was already tilting heavily, causing chaos. The captain prematurely abandoned ship with hundreds of passengers still on board, leading to a deadly and terrifying scramble for survival.

X-Men '97 (Prime Video)
The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. Set in the 1990s, X-Men '97 continues the story of the beloved mutant heroes following the loss of Professor Charles Xavier. Cyclops and Jean Grey attempt to hold the team together and keep Xavier's dream alive. Their mission is complicated by a shocking twist: former enemy Magneto steps up to take leadership of the institute. Michael is making history yet again. The Michael Jackson biopic just pushed past the $1 billion mark at the global box office, a historic first for a biopic. In total thus far, the movie has brought in $371.8 million domestically and $629.8 million overseas, with an overall haul of $1.001 billion, per Variety.

Tickets are already on sale for two great Midwest country events. Lakes Jam 2027 has Dierks Bentley headlining the Saturday night slot on June 26 at the Brainerd International Raceway. Lakefront Music Fest has Jon Pardi and Lee Brice headlining July 10 at Prior Lake.

Fresh off her Emmy nomination for the second season of Beef, Carey Mulligan has joined the cast of Focus Features’ The Bell Jar. The project will mark the film acting debut of global pop star Billie Eilish. While the studio has not formally announced the project, sources told Variety that Mulligan will play Mrs. Greenwood — mother to Eilish’s protagonist Esther Greenwood in the adaptation of the famed Sylvia Plath novel. Sarah Polley (Women Talking) will direct.

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren are returning to theaters in The Conjuring: First Communion, a prequel movie in Warner Bros. and New Line’s horror franchise. Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix will star as young Ed and Lorraine, taking over for Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who have portrayed adult versions of the characters across several commercially successful films.

Steve Buscemi is joining the cast of FX and Hulu’s Far Cry. The former Boardwalk Empire star and Emmy winner is joining It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob Mac (who also executive produces) and Lizzy Caplan in the series, an adaptation of the long-running video game franchise.

Ciara Miller is returning to Summer House, officially. After weeks of rumors and speculation about whether she would be back or not, the 30 year old nurse turned reality star confirmed her return during Love Island: Aftersun on Saturday. Ciara has been co-hosting the weekly recap during Love Island USA season eight this summer, alongside Tefi Pessoa.

Drake just lost his million dollar bet. The Iceman entertainer publicized a $1 million bet that Conor McGregor would beat Max Holloway at UFC 329 on Saturday.

Madonna is on top once more. The Queen of Pop scored the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Confessions II. The album, featuring songs like Bring Your Love with Sabrina Carpenter, Danceteria and Love Sensation, moved 134,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in its debut week according to Luminate, making it the biggest dance album of 2026 thus far.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's runtime was recently reported to be 2 hours and 24 minutes, but trusted leaker @Cryptic4KQual has now learned that, without credits, Spidey's MCU return will be 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his Blue Beetle role in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. The film, currently in production, will be directed by James Gunn. Maridueña first portrayed the character in the 2023 film Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Manuel Soto. Maridueña played Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate who gains superpowers when an alien scarab latches on to him.

Little House on the Prairie was the No. 3 most-watched TV series on Netflix during the week of July 6-12, reaching 6.4 million views in four days after its July 9 premiere.
