Larry Crowne
Tom Hanks and Julie Roberts
star in the story of a downsized big box store employee
who enrolls in his local college to start over. Until he
was downsized, affable, amiable Larry Crowne was a
superstar team leader at the big box company where he's
worked since his time in the Navy. Underwater on his
mortgage and unclear on what to do with his suddenly
free days, Larry heads to his local college to start
over. There he becomes part of a colorful community of
outcasts, also rans and the overlooked all trying to
find a better future for themselves, often moving around
town in a herd of scooters. In his public speaking
class, Larry develops an unexpected crush on his teacher
Mercedes Tainot, who has lost as much passion for
teaching as she has for her husband. The simple guy who
has every reason to think his life has stalled will come
to learn an unexpected lesson: when you think everything
worth having has passed you by, you just might discover
your reason to live.

The Warrior's Way
After a lifetime of training in martial arts and swordsmanship, Yang has
eliminated all but one of his clan's enemies, an infant whose smile instantly
melts his heart. Unwilling to kill her and unable to protect her from his own
deadly tribe, Yang takes the baby girl and flees, planning to seek refuge with
an old friend living in Lode, a frontier town in the American West. He arrives
to find that his friend has died and the once thriving Gold Rush town is in
shambles, inhabited only by a few dozen eccentrics including Lynne, a beautiful,
spirited knife thrower in training, and Ron, a worn out drunk. In order to make
a safe home for the child far from the reach of his murderous clansman, Yang
decides to stay on as the town's new laundryman, sealing his sword for good.
The Buzz...
Chris Brown won four awards to score the most wins at Sunday's
Bet Awards. His ex-girlfriend, Rihanna, won best female R&B
artist, while brother and sister Jaden and Willow Smith
tied for the Young Stars Award. Brown won for best male R&B artist, best
collaboration (with Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes on
Look At Me Now), and two fan awards, the viewers choice and FANdemonium
award.
You can go ahead and scratch Jeff Probst’s name off the short list
of possible Regis Philbin replacements; the Survivor host
is getting his own talk show. Probst has inked a deal with CBS
Distribution to headline a syndicated daytime gabfest beginning in fall 2012,
but that doesn’t necessarily mean his Survivor days are numbered. The Emmy
winner will likely shoot the reality juggernaut during his talk show’s summer
hiatus.
Did the new short before Cars 2 whet your animation appetite for more
Toy Story? Well, you're in luck: Tom Hanks shares that the
saga of cowboy Woody and Buzz Lightyear is not yet over and that Toy Story 4 is
in the works.
Fan of NBC’s The Voice may have coming their way this
summer a live concert tour, though one sans the talents of megastar judges
recording artists Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine,
Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. Rocker Levine
seemingly announced on Twitter Monday an upcoming concert series for the
Season 1 finalists, saying, “@javstwtr [aka Javier Colon] and [former
contestant] @Casey_Weston are hitting the road in July for #TheVoice Live On
Tour. Go check them out.” Levine’s too soon tweet was taken down shortly
thereafter, but sources confirm to TVLine that an official tour announcement is
in the works and should be expected within early this week.
Is Johnny Depp trying to make Keith Richards
jealous? The Rolling Stones guitarist plays his dad in the Pirates of
the Caribbean movies, but Depp's rock 'n' roll credentials run even deeper:
He got his start playing in bands until his pal Nicolas Cage
suggested he give acting a try and, well, you know the rest. And the 48 year old
still has chops, as he joined Alice Cooper onstage (and backstage)
at London's 100 Club to bash out the ghoulish rocker's rowdy anthems School's
Out and I'm Eighteen.
Michael Jackson’s iconic red and black leather jacket from his
seminal 1983 zombie musicvideo was a real thriller at auction this weekend,
selling for $1.8 million. Julien’s Auctions of Beverly Hills, which has sold
treasures from the late King of Pop in the past, gave the Thriller jacket
a much lower estimated bid; $200,000 to $400,000.
Clint Eastwood is using his time with Leonardo DiCaprio
on the J Edgar Hoover biopic to discuss the director's new Warner
Bros project A Star Is Born. Clint is hoping to team Leo
with Beyoncé, who's already set for the musical.
Channing Tatum is on board to reprise the role of Duke in G.I.
Joe 2: Cobra Strikes, and prior reports suggest Lee Byung-hun
(Storm Shadow) and Ray Park (Snake Eyes) may also return.
Otherwise, Paramount is looking to a new cast to liven up the sequel. The big
get is Dwayne Johnson. The man has revealed a penchant for joining
film series midstream with Fast Five and Journey 2: The
Mysterious Island.
One of the very first contestants on The Marriage Ref is
now blaming creator panelist Jerry Seinfeld for the end of his
marriage. Seinfeld himself, however, doesn't seem to have a lot of sympathy.
Howie Kohlenberg appeared with his then-wife, Christine, on
the NBC show's first episode last year. The couple was hoping to get some
free publicity for Manhattan spa, but instead, he says the show caused Christine
to leave him and their 4 year old son in search of fame.
Two and a Half Men will turn dark for just a minute or two when it
premieres in September because Alan and Jake will learn Charlie Harper bit the
dust. Chuck Lorre's plan is to make sure Charlie Sheen
can never come back on the show. Although the first show won't be filmed until
August 5, producers have been kicking around scenarios, which include Charlie
driving a car over a cliff. As for how Ashton Kutcher enters the
picture, there's been talk that he buys Charlie's house after Charlie kicks the
bucket.
