At The Movies

Tower Heist
When a billionaire steals their retirement money, the workers at a luxury condominium come up with a plan to even the score. Queens native Josh Kovacs has managed one of the most luxurious and well secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh's building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage. With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh's crew turns to petty crook Slide to plan the nearly impossible to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur's guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they've been casing the place for years, they just didn't know it. This all star cast includes Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, Judd Hirsch, Téa Leoni and Michael Pena.

Cars 2
Star racecar Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater take their friendship to exciting new places when they head overseas to compete in the first ever World Grand Prix to determine the world's fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater's action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

The Buzz...

According to social media statistics site Fame Count, Justin Bieber has set a new record on YouTube - he is the first person to ever have over 2 billion video views. The previous big milestone was when Lady Gaga reached 1 billion views back in 2010.

Thanks in part to strong sales of its Android operated Galaxy S II handset, Samsung has passed Apple to become the world’s biggest seller of smartphones. The Korean company also released figures for its third quarter, which showed a record profit generated by smartphone sales. According to data from Strategy Analytics, Samsung took 23.8 percent of the smartphone market with 27.8 million shipments compared to Apple’s 14.6 percent with 17.1 million shipments.

The UK Toy Retailers Association has chosen a dachshund that farts and defecates called Doggie Doo by Goliath Games as the top "dream toy" children will want this Christmas. Players win by doing what most dog owners dread, picking up poop. "I like it, it's funny," says Freddie, an 11 year old who headed straight for it at the official preview, to the Guardian. "I'd like to get it for Christmas."

Thousands of disappointed fans have broken chairs and torn posters after organizers cancelled a Metallica concert on the outskirts of the Indian capital. The Press Trust of India news agency says police arrested four people from the company that had organized the concert on charges of cheating people who had waited for hours for the scheduled Friday performance by the American heavy metal band. Organizers said the concert was called off due to technical difficulties. Metallica promised full refunds to those who had bought tickets.

Doris Day has been named recipient of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's 2011 Career Achievement Award, the critics group announced on Saturday. "Decades on from the main body of her work, Doris Day is still arguably the template to which Hollywood turns when trying to quantify and capture girl next door appeal,” said Lafca president Brent Simon in a release announcing the honor.

It's safe to say this was not the wedding gift Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries wanted. According to reports, the New Jersey Nets baller believes that one of the couple's wedding guests, Andrey C. Hicks, scammed him out of hundreds of thousands of dollars with a fraudulent investment scheme. So, what went down? Hicks, a Boston-area money manager, allegedly solicited individuals (like Humphries) to invest $1.7 million collectively in a purported billion dollar hedge fund called Locust Offshore Fund Ltd., and made several false representations of himself and his business in the process, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Following Regis Philbin’s November 18 exit, his syndicated talk show with Kelly Ripa will be temporarily retitled Live! With Kelly while a new permanent co-host is found. In the meantime, Ripa will be joined by a slew of guest co-hosts. First off is Jerry Seinfeld, who will take a seat besides Ripa on her first three solo shows, November 21-23. The duo’s guests will include Jason Segal, Kim Cattrall, Howie Mandel, Jamie Oliver and Miss Piggy. “Jerry is a great friend of ours, and a friend of Kelly’s, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s an entertainment icon,” Live executive producer Michael Gelman said. “It’s a great way to kick off the new beginning of our show.”

After months of speculation, the Google owned video behemoth confirmed late Friday that it’s launching 100 custom video channels featuring original content produced by the likes of Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Amy Poehler and Tony Hawk.

Jakob Dylan plans to reunite with his band The Wallflowers for their first album since 2005’s Rebel, Sweetheart. Dylan, who’s currently touring behind his fine 2010 T-Bone Burnett produced set, Women and Country, told Rolling Stone that he and the reunited Wallflowers will start work on the new set in January and that the six-year hiatus was unintentional because, well, time goes by a lot faster when you get older.

Fox and DirecTV have reached an agreement for the satellite provider to continue carrying Fox cable changes and broadcast network.
