Real Steel
Hugh Jackman is a fighter who takes his
2000 pound scrap metal contender to the bot boxing
championships. In the near future, where the sport of
boxing has gone hi-tech, Charlie Kenton is a washed up
fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000 pound,
8 foot tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing
but a small time promoter, Charlie earns just enough
money piecing together low end bots from scrap metal to
get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When
Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with
his estranged son Max to build and train a championship
contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no holds barred
arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get
one last shot at a comeback.

Fast Five
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and a stacked cast of
'Fast' favorites return in the explosive fifth installment of the blockbuster
auto action franchise. Joining the chase is Dwayne Johnson as a
hard-nosed federal agent hell bent on apprehending former cop Brian O'Conner and
ex-con Dom Toretto. Now backed into a corner in Brazil, the fugitives must
assemble an elite team of accomplices to pull one last job that could be their
shot at freedom. The unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for
good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead.
The Buzz...
Beyoncé and Jay-z were "very cute and affectionate" at the
rapper's carnival themed fundraiser for his Shawn Carter Foundation at
New York's Pier 54. The rapper arrived first, but later met his pregnant wife at
the Spotted Pig's food truck, where they ate sliders. Next,
Beyoncé grabbed a seat at a picnic table and watched as her hubby threw darts
with Alex Rodriguez. Guests at the high end bash sipped Armand
de Brignac Champagne, played carnival games and enjoyed the high end treats
provided by Spotted Pig and Momofuku Milk Bar. In the end, the event
raised $1 million toward sending underprivileged students to college.
One of the fiercest competitor's in music may be heading to the biggest game of
all. Madonna could be prepping to play the Super Bowl. The
Queen of Pop is reportedly going to perform during Super Bowl XLVI's halftime
show, according to sports blog SBNation.com. A rep for the NFL did not deny or
confirm the report, saying, "We don't comment on musical acts until we make the
official announcement."
Grossing over $120 million worldwide on a $50 million budget, The Adjustment
Bureau wasn't exactly a blockbuster, but it nevertheless performed
respectably enough for the Syfy network to begin development on a TV
spinoff of the sci-fi/thriller, according to reports. The concept is being
adapted by former Smallville exec-producers Darren Swimmer
and Todd Slavkin, who are serving as executive producers on the
project along with George Nolfi, who wrote, directed and produced
the feature.
Following a record breaking September, October 2011 should also be in good shape
to at least come close to matching last year's $687.8 million (or October 2009's
record $693.4 million). Puss in Boots, Paranormal
Activity 3 and Real Steel all seem like locks for solid grosses, and
at least one of the remakes (Footloose, The Thing, The
Three Musketeers) could break out to help drive another strong
month at the box office.
Novelist Don Winslow is one of the latest authors to have piqued
Hollywood's interest, with a film version of his crime novel Savages
completing production last week with Oliver Stone at the helm and
now news that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Satori,
a 1950 set spy novel that will be adapted as a starring vehicle for Leonardo
DiCaprio. DiCaprio is attached to star as Nicholai Hel, an American-born
man raised in Japan by a martial arts expert and military leader who taught him
the skills of an assassin.
Despite new rumors nearly daily that certain stars from Bravo’s Real
Housewives of New Jersey are being fired from the series, including one that
had Jacqueline Laurita and sister in law Caroline Manzo
getting the boot for season five, the network has officially decided to speak
out on the issue. “Bravo is not firing anyone from The Real Housewives of New
Jersey,” a Bravo spokesperson says.
Steve-O has made a career of stapling his scrotum to his thigh and
feeding raw chicken to alligators from his jockstrap. So one can imagine that
any karaoke session he engages in is going to contain something a little more
exciting than a boozy, warbled version of I Will Always Love You. That's
what TruTV is banking on with Killer Karaoke, a new series
that it announced. The show, which is based on the international series Sing
if You Can, will be hosted by the Jackass and Wildboyz
daredevil and feature contestants attempting to belt out popular songs while "in
the midst of extreme, hilarious and sometimes skin-crawling conditions,"
according to TruTV's announcement.
Seth Rogen debuted a new movie and a new bride this weekend. While
the actor's new film, 50/50, was released this weekend, he was off at a
Sonoma County, Calif., estate on Sunday marrying longtime girlfriend Lauren
Miller. So which big names attended the festivities? The Green
Hornet star invited his usual crew of pals and costars, including Jonah
Hill, Craig Robinson and Paul Rudd.
Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy has retired from the
show's hugely popular conventions after almost 30 years. The actor made his name
playing half-Vulcan Spock in the original Star Trek TV series back in 1966.
Nimoy, along with other beloved stars of the show, has been a regular at the
annual conventions set up by Creation Entertainment over the last
three decades. But the 80 year old has decided to step down, and has confirmed
his last appearance was at the 45th anniversary event in Chicago, Illinois last
weekend. At the convention, he spoke to fans about his life and thanked them for
their support, before making his famous Vulcan salute and saying his catchphrase
from the show, "Live Long and prosper."
Tara Reid has reached out to reassure fans the upcoming fourth
installment of the American Pie franchise will be a "great movie"
amid reports she is earning less money than her co-stars. Rumours swirled that
the actress is to be paid $250,000 to reprise her role as Vicky Lathum in
American Reunion, far less than fellow stars including Jason
Biggs, who will reportedly take home $5 million.
Controversial Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais is
considering returning to the ceremony by hosting an unofficial live webcast to
coincide with the 2012 show. The British comedian caused a storm of controversy
with his biting commentary at the glitzy Hollywood prizegiving in January,
poking fun at the star-studded audience.
Disney has today launched a mobile application line that transforms the
Apple iPad into a virtual playmat for children, starting with a
game based on Pixar's Cars 2. The Disney AppMates product range
utilizes patent pending technology to enable children to use special toys to
interact with the iPad screen.
