Floor Is Lava
Teams compete to navigate rooms flooded with lava by leaping from chairs, hanging from curtains and swinging from chandeliers. Netflix has introduced its fair share of reality television over the past several months with projects like Love is Blind, Too Hot to Handle and The Circle. But the introduction of a new show might indicate another avenue Netflix will soon pursue. Floor is Lava spent the entire weekend in the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10. Following suit with reality shows like Love is Blind (which spent six straight days at No. 1 between March 6-11) and Too Hot to Handle (which spent five straight days at No. 1 between April 19-23), Floor is Lava is yet another unscripted Netflix show that dominated streaming numbers.

Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi is a 2019 drama film inspired by real events about a reformed criminal who is prevented from applying to the seminary after his release, so he dresses as a priest and ministers a small town parish. It is a coming of-age tale of a young man who refuses to walk on the already trodden path and finds a new one rather and in the process reforming almost the entire town with him. It is entertaining and insightful at the same time. The end scene would open you up but is a perfect end to a beautifully directed film.

The Buzz...

Following in the footsteps of Trolls World Tour and Scoob!, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run will skip its theatrical release and head straight to video-on-demand marketplaces before landing on CBS All Access. The movie was originally slated to hit theaters on August 7th, but is now delayed to 2021. The movie will premiere first on premium video on demand services (like Amazon, iTunes, and other marketplaces) for an undisclosed amount of time before it moves to CBS All Access.

Jenny Slate has quit cult animated show Big Mouth, because her character is supposed to be biracial. The 38 year old has announced she’s stepping down from the role of Missy on the hit Netflix series, because a black actress should voice the part.

Actress Millie Bobby Brown’s upcoming Enola Holmes movie is at the centre of a copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit filed by officials for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate. The Stranger Things star portrays Sherlock Holmes’ little sister in the Netflix film, based on Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes Mysteries book series, which co-stars Henry Cavill as the famed literary sleuth, alongside castmates Sam Claflin, Fiona Shaw, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Joseph Kosinski, the man behind Tom Cruise’s Top Gun return, is in talks to remake classic storm movie Twister. Universal bosses are keen to revamp Jan de Bont’s 1996 film, starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, and Top Gun: Maverick director Kosinski appears to be the frontrunner to oversee the new version, which will be produced by Frank Marshall.

With the coronavirus pandemic forcing cancellation of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, actors Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams hope fans can get their fix by watching their madcap Netflix comedy about a duo from Iceland who compete in the event.

Actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have returned to work on the set of The Matrix 4 in Germany following the coronavirus shutdown. Photos obtained by TMZ show Reeves and Moss on location in Berlin to reprise their lead roles as Neo and Trinity, while franchise newcomer Neil Patrick Harris was also seen getting back to work.

Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is planning to finish his latest A Song Of Ice And Fire novel by next year. Fans of his books, and the hit HBO fantasy series based on them, have long been kept waiting for new installments, with the last, A Dance with Dragons, coming out in 2011 as the first season of the TV show aired.

Cardi B’s skintight catsuit, which split on stage during her performance at the 2019 Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee, is to be auctioned. The rapper was forced to finish her set in a bathrobe after the custom-made, hand-beaded, multi coloured chevron patterned outfit came apart.

Netflix hit Lucifer has been renewed for a sixth and final season after bosses at the streaming service announced season five would be the last. The series, in which Tom Ellis plays the devil, was set to conclude with the fifth season, which is set to air in August, but fans were given the good news on Tuesday when it was revealed another run is being planned via the show’s official Twitter account.

YouTube personality Jojo Siwa will star in the movie adaptation of the book Bounce. Based on the book by Megan Shull, Bounce is a heartwarming story about a teenage girl who wishes she could trade her family for a new one on Christmas Eve. Her wish is granted and she finds herself “bouncing” into the lives of other girls and living Christmas Day on repeat, learning the value of family, finding your voice and the power of love.

Hollywood studios are opening their wallets for the runaway slave thriller Emancipation with Will Smith attached to star and Antoine Fuqua directing. Warner Bros, Apple, MGM, Lionsgate and Universal have all made offers on the property at the Cannes virtual market this week. Deadline Hollywood reported that the bidding is upwards of $75 million.

Kenya Barris’ comedy #blackAF has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix. The series, which premiered April 17, stars Barris as a fictionalized version of himself, with Parks and Recreation alum Rashida Jones as his wife, Joya.
