As the entertainment industry mourns the tragic passing of Michael
Kenneth Williams, admirers of the great character actor may wish to
be reminded that he is nominated for the best supporting actor in a drama series
Primetime Emmy for his performance as Montrose Freeman on HBO’s
Lovecraft Country, and is widely expected to win, for the first
time in his illustrious career, just 13 days from now.
A new two-hour documentary about Janet Jackson, simply titled
Janet, will premiere in January 2022 on Lifetime and A&E in
celebration of the star’s 40th anniversary of her debut album. Jackson released
a teaser for the documentary, in which fellow musicians such as Mariah
Carey and Paula Abdul speak about their relationship with the
singer. Jackson’s family members make appearances as well, with clips of the
late Michael Jackson with his younger sister in home videos.
Oscar winner Susan Sarandon has been tapped to lead
Monarch, Fox’s straight to series country music drama. Per the
official logline, Monarch is a “Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama
about America’s first family of country music, the Romans. The Romans are headed
by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie
Cantrell Roman.
Disney+ has released a trailer for the Halloween-themed special Lego
Star Wars Terrifying Tales (premiering Friday, Oct.
1). Tony Hale (Veep) voices Darth Vader’s loyal servant
Vaneé as he tells three spooky stories: The Lost Boy, which
recounts how a young Ben Solo first meets Ren; The Dueling
Monstrosities, which imagines how Darth Maul and General Grievous were
reborn; and The Wookiee’s Paw, which explores what might
have happened if all of Luke Skywalker’s greatest wishes were immediately
granted.
Disney is raising prices on Hulu’s baseline video on demand
streaming packages next month, as the Mouse House seeks to push customers toward
the three way Disney Bundle and Hulu’s live TV packages.
This weekend’s box office tallies revealed that, yes, even with the delta
variant raging, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings could deliver
movie theaters a much-needed jolt. The 25th entry in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe had a bigger debut than the studio initially

Sony Pictures has once again moved the release date of Venom:
Let There Be Carnage, announcing that it will be pushed up two weeks from
Oct. 15 to Oct. 1. It was initially slated to premiere Sept. 24.
After Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin filed a
lawsuit against Nicole Scherzinger, alleging breach of contract
among other accusations, the Masked Singer judge's attorney Howard
King says that Antin's "ludicrous and false claims are a desperate attempt to
divert blame for her own failures by trying to impose obligations on Nicole that
simply do not exist."
