Fruitville Station (Hulu)
The feature film debut of writer director Ryan
Coogler (Black Panther), Fruitvale
Station tells the true story of Oscar Grant,
a 22 year old resident of Oakland, California, on the
last day of his life. An engrossing slice of life tale
that shows Oscar meeting friends, family, enemies, and
strangers before ultimately meeting his demise at the
hands of police officers on New Year’s Day in 2009, it’s
a haunting examination of being Black in America.
The Buzz...
Brooke Shields regrets telling the world she was a virgin when she
was younger. The 57 year old model revealed in a 1985 book when she was 20 that
she had not yet had sexual intercourse and became the “most famous virgin in the
world” but wished she hadn’t said anything because the comment “never left her
alone.”
Links lovely Paige Spiranac is slamming The New
York Times over their takedown of LSU gymnast Olivia
Dunne’s saucy snapshots. Dunne was targeted by writer Kurt Steeter
who moaned that the new flow of NIL (name, image, likeness) money to female
college athletes “rewards traditional feminine desirability over athletic
excellence.” The athletes, however, claim they need the dough from influencing
and making bank on their looks to pay for their schooling.
An Iranian man who lived for 18 years in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport and
whose saga loosely inspired the Steven Spielberg film The
Terminal died Saturday in the airport that he long called home, officials
said.
Kevin Conroy, the prolific voice actor whose gravelly delivery on
Batman: The Animated Series was for many Batman fans
the definitive sound of the Caped Crusader, has died at 66.
Lorne Michaels once again turned to stand-up vet Dave
Chappelle to host Saturday Night Live this week. With
floundering ratings, it’s no wonder the show would reach out to Chappelle.
Historically, he’s been a huge draw for the show, and his takes almost always
draw headlines.
I Hate Christmas, Netflix’s first Italian Christmas series, stars
Pilar Fogliati as Gianna, a woman who doesn’t buy into
Christmastime sentimentality and is content to stay single during the holidays.
In a candid new interview with Raven-Symone, the 36 year old
actress opened up about her experience as a former co-host on The View
and why she initially didn’t want to come out as queer.
Melissa Joan Hart is putting an end to rumours circulating
online that she and Lena Dunham are feuding. The former child
star, who rose to fame on the 90s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage
Witch, took to Instagram on Friday to lay the “hot gossip” to
rest.
