At The Movies
The Son
An emotionally devastating film with a shocking yet important cautionary message for all parents. A gradually sadder, depressing, frustrating story that grips the audience through its tension filled dialogue, but the lack of something new and impactful directly about those primarily affected by mental health issues could be an uncomfortable trigger for many viewers. Hugh Jackman stands out with one of the best performances of his career in a genuinely powerful, tear-inducing display. Florian Zeller's movie will get an understandably divisive reception, but I definitely consider it a must watch flick

Ginny & Georgia
(Netflix)
She Said follows New York Times’ investigative journalists Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) as they gather their sources and follow the breadcrumbs in preparation for their story on Harvey Weinstein and his sexual misconduct. What’s fascinating is how director Maria Schrader frames the movie around their regular, normal lives. At the end of a long work day, they head home to their families, but often have to bring their work back them.

The Pale Blue Eye (Netflix)
A world weary detective is hired to investigate the murder of a West Point cadet. Stymied by the cadets' code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case, a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe. The Pale Blue Eye featuring Christian Bale and Harry Melling is streaming with subscription on Netflix. From filmmaker Scott Cooper comes The Pale Blue Eye, an adaptation of the novel from author Louis Bayard and will more than likely go down as one of 2023's most underrated and overlooked gems.

The Buzz...

Britney Spears gave the finger in her latest Instagram clip after it was reported she had a “manic” episode at a restaurant that saw her husband Sam Asghari storm away.

Shakira has defended her latest song after it was branded a “diss track” targeting her ex Gerard Pique and his girlfriend. The singer said the Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53 track was for “women who rise up against those who make us feel insignificant.” She said on Instagram about the song, which has reached the top of Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart: “I never thought what for me was a catharsis and a release would go straight to number one in the world."

Lisa Marie Presley was spending more than $92,000 a month before her death and may have been worth only $4 million when she passed away. Elvis Presley’s only child, who died at age 54 from a double heart attack, also owed the tax man $1 million.

Quantum Leap fans won’t be left in the dark for much longer. Raymond Lee, who plays Ben, assures that answers to the many questions raised in Season 1, including exactly what threat to Addison’s life compelled him to make the unauthorized leap, are coming.

Jeff Bridges is opening up about his triumphant return to Hollywood after his battle with both Covid-19 and cancer. Bridges was honored with the Lifetime Achievement at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles, presented by his friend and Big Lebowski co-star John Goodman, where he dedicated the honor to his late father, Lloyd Bridges.
