Off The Record...
Big Shiny Tunes 5

Various Artists
The Big Shiny Tunes venture has been pretty successful these past few years, showcasing the top songs that were on the MuchMusic countdown for weeks on end. But there are a few new additions on here that are surprise. Disturbed's Stupify marks one with some harder music represented by Nickleback, Deftones and Limp Bizkit as others worth mentioning. It's a solid roster of hit songs from this year that'll appease more of the Edgefest crowd than Britney Spears wannabes. A must for the Christmas stocking of any music fan.

At The Movies...

What Women Want

What do women want? Mel Gisbon stars as a sexist executive who gets knocked unconscious while trying to stop a robbery. When he wakes up, he finds that he's developed a strange ability to read the minds of the women around him. And if you think this power isn't going to affect a male chauvinist's actions, think again. He eventually starts trying to do what women do as well, even going so far as to try on nylons and wax his legs. A strong supporting cast gives this movie strength as well as hilarity.

On DVD...
White Christmas
Long before the movie, White Christmas was already the top-selling song of all-time. When the legendary Michael Curtiz (Casablanca) took on the job of directing the film inspired by the song, it seemed that this one could not fail. This story of returning favours at Christmastime is another holiday season staple that's likely as popular today as it was two or three decades ago. Big screen, big names, big budget, big songs, this movie is a winner from the start. A holiday classic, and deservedly so.

The Buzz...
Classic rockers Aerosmith, Steely Dan, and Queen were selected by voters choosing the 16th round of inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

UPN has decided to cancel Freedom. Averaging a miserable 1.7 rating, the Friday night thriller series has two more unaired episodes. The network will continue to broadcast its other Friday genre show, Level 9.

NBC announced that beginning Jan. 9 3rd Rock from the Sun would be broadcast at 8 PM Tuesdays rather than 8:30 PM. The sci-fi sitcom will be filling the spot vacated by the Michael Richards Show, which the network has decided to cancel.

What's the most popular toyline in Great Britain this Christmas season? Would you believe Thunderbirds?

DC Comics is raising its prices in Canada. $3.50 CAN comics are being hiked a quarter while $3.95 CAN books will cost $0.30 CAN more.

The first computer generated image from the coming Jason X has been posted online at diabolical-dominion.com

Bon Jovi will perform at the Superbowl in Tampa, Florida on January 28th and will also appear at Los Angeles radio station Star 98.7's Christmas show on December 16th at the Wiltern Theater in Hollywood.

Diana Krall is scheduled to record an episode of the classic children's show Sesame Street sometime in December.

The family of late actor Anthony Dwain Lee, who was shot and killed by a police officer at a Halloween party, filed a $100 million wrongful death suit against the city of Los Angeles.

Felony drug charges were formally filed against actor Robert Downey Jr. following his arrest last month at a hotel in Palm Springs. Riverside County prosecutors charged Downey with felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of the prescription depressant diazepam, and a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Ben Stiller may soon be rolling in Mike Myers'' riches. Funnyman Myers has given Confessions of a Dangerous Mind the gong, but Stiller may be replacing him in the wacky true story about oddball game show host Chuck Barris.

Fox's popular comedy Malcolm in the Middle may be about to make an appearance on the big screen, a highly unusual route for a TV show still in production.

Linkin Park will hit the road with Taproot for a tour that will kick off January 26th. The band recently cut a song called track My December that will turn up as a b-side to the U.K. CD single for One Step Closer.
