Off The Record...

Big Sugar

Heated

After the massive success of Hemi-Vision, Gordie Johnson and the boys are back for another taste with a guitar driven, bass pounding effort that revels in its blues based groove then lashes out with bursts of pure audio energy.  Check out their new single, The Scene, and don't miss their highly touted Belvedere Rocks sponsored Heated tour this Friday and Saturday at the Outpost with Canadian faves Matthew Good Band and Pluto. When it comes to great rock n' roll, it doesn't get any sweeter than this.

At The Movies...

Blade

Maybe you weren't aware of it, but an ancient human/vampire treaty has permitted an underground gang of aristocratic bloodsuckers to control banks, real estate and law enforcement agencies. Blade (Wesley Snipes) is the half-human/half-vampire who has dedicated his existence to slaying the undead attempts to stop them from taking over the world. This film establishes a rattling pace from the get-go and never lets the intricacies of the subplots get in the way of the carnage. Blade stays true to it's Marvel comics origin and proves it's worth to all the Gorehounds and comic fans.

On Video...

The Newton Boys

A true story of four brothers during the depression who decided that the real crooks of their time were the banks and the insurance companies which gives them the okay to set out and rob them all. The Newton brothers were America's most successful robbers, knocking over 80 banks from Texas to Canada. An action-adventure starring today's hottest actors Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, Skeet Ulrich, Vincent D'Onofrio and Julianna Margulies.

The Buzz...

10-year-old Jamie Lynn Bence sang the national anthem last week for the New York Yankees making her the first person to sing in all 30 major league ballparks.

Red hot Cameron Diaz will be the first host of this seasons Saturday Night Live, joining musical guests Smashing Pumpkins.  Her hit movie Something About Mary has become the first film to take in over $100 million at the box office without ever reaching the number one spot.

Two become four.  Scary Spice (Melanie Brown) and Posh Spice (Victoria Adams) have announced that they are expecting two new fans to be delivered in the next nine months.  No word on how the other girls or the record execs are taking the pregnancy news.

The Howard Stern Radio Show didn't quite knock off the competition as promised, but the King Of All Media did garner an incredible ratings jump of over 1000% for the same time slot over the previous week for the debut of his Saturday night TV show.

Looks like KISS will have something to fall back on just in case the whole reunion thing doesn't work out. Following in the footsteps of David Bowie, KISS is planning to get into the Internet business by becoming an on-line provider. The company will be called KISS-net. Their new album, Psycho Circus, is due in stores next month.

Marv Wolfman, the creator of Blade, has sued Warner Bros., Time Warner and Marvel Entertainment for $35 million, claiming ownership of the character. Wolfman's claim reportedly hinges on his assertion that when he created the Blade character and nemesis Deacon Frost in 1972, he was an independent contractor for Marvel, not an employee.

Now you can take Buffy home. Well, at least on video. WB's certified hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer will premiere on home video Sept. 15.

989 Studios, a Sony Computer Entertainment Group Company, announced today that it is publishing the upcoming title Xena: Warrior Princess exclusively for the Sony Playstation that is slated to hit retailer shelves in March 1999.

Meryl Streep is slated to replace Madonna in the movie 50 Violins, which Madonna left in July after creative differences with director Wes Craven.

The Levi's commercial in which a hamster dies of boredom after his exercise wheel breaks has outraged so many animal lovers, the jeans maker decided to issue a statement to let concerned people know that Kevin (the hamster) is alive and well and looking at other offers.  Sheeeeesh....
