Off The Record...

Dave Matthews Band

Before These Crowded Streets

The Dave Matthews Band is gearing up for a huge summer tour and they give us a miraculous preview of what to expect with a collection of new material. His fiery vocals hold their own, while the rest of the band puts out a great effort with inventive rhythm sections and dynamic lead instrumentalists. Alanis Morissette even makes a contribution with a haunting verse of "Spoon".

At The Movies...

Deep Impact

When a comet is discovered to be on a collision course with Earth, the resulting global

panic forces the U.S. president (Morgan Freeman) to devise a survival strategy, while a former U.S. astronaut (Robert Duvall) studies the possibility of diverting the comet's approach. This film is packing a stellar cast and a lot of dazzling special effects by Industrial Light and Magic, giving you a rousing nail biter.

On Video...

Alien Resurrection

Sigourney Weaver's Ripley is cloned back to life to give birth to an alien for further scientific and warfare research. Naturally things get a bit out of hand and Ripley teams up with a rogue crew of outer space misfits (including Winona Ryder and Ron Perlman) to fight the slimy killer species. There's plenty of gore and action for Alien buffs as the best aspects of the film's three predecessors are cloned for reuse here.

The Buzz...

LEGO has signed an exclusive agreement to manufacture Star Wars construction toys based on both the original trilogy and the three new Star Wars films.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are supposedly set to sign onboard the film version of the classic TV series "Bewitched".

The Smashing Pumpkins will play a free concert in Minneapolis July 17. The show will kick off the city's annual Aquatennial, a 10-day celebration of summer. Some 100,000 people are expected to attend the concert.

Fujifilm had plans to stage a Seinfest for thousands to watch the May 14 finale of Seinfeld together, but New York City Mayor Giuliani rejected the notion of closing Times Square. The effort to pull together a public farewell had been going on for weeks

Will Smith will star in the futuristic superhero project The Mark, about a man who awakens with superhuman powers after an old man transfers a supernatural mark to his hand.

Aerosmith have postponed the rest of their North American tour because of Steven Tyler's knee injury, which requires surgery. Tyler was hurt onstage April 29 when the base of his microphone stand struck his knee. The band says August is the earliest they'll return to the road.

Jonathan Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire) will play the lead in The Little Vampire, based on the best-selling children's books by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg.

Radiohead's new album, the EP Airbag / How Am I Driving?, is driving phone operators batty. The number 1426148550 is given on the EP cover and by singer Thom Yorke in concert, who jokes that it's the number to call to report bad drivers.

Motor City Madman Ted Nugent is currently in talks to put a stranglehold on television. The deal comes in the wake of Nugent's successful morning radio show, which recently beat out Howard Stern in the Detroit market.

If  Lost in Space reaches a box-office taking of $150 million internationally, a sequel will immediately be put into development. What a shock....
