Off The Record...

Soul Asylum

Candy From A Stranger

Grabbing a tight lock on the charts with their runaway hit single I Will Still Be Laughing, Soul Asylum reassert themselves as a talented viable band with plenty of staying power.  Mixing memorable choruses with catchy hooks, Candy From A Stranger edges from pop to rock to blues, with a background of lush instrumental arrangements, keeping the band fresh and current while still pleasing their immense fan base.

At The Movies...

Sliding Doors

A what-if scenario involving the different trajectories of Helen's (Gwyneth Paltrow) romantic and professional futures when in one instance she catches the sliding doors of a subway car, and in the second case misses them.  Both parallel destinies are tracked with a whimsical light-comedic touch, as we hope she ends up with the better of both destinies, while the fickle finger of fate slightly guides her.  Entertaining, amusing, and sure to keep you guessing right up to the crowd pleasing ending.

On Video...

Tomorrow Never Dies

007 takes on an evil media baron who wants to start a war to boost subscriptions to his newspapers and satellite channels. Joining in his efforts to thwart the villain is action heroine Michelle Yeoh as a secret agent who almost out-Bonds the hero. In only his second outing, Pierce Brosnan brings his own presence to the title character, with one of the best of the series since the last of the Connery epics.

The Buzz...

One of the biggest events of the concert season is turning 5. Edgefest 5 will take place at Apple River in Somerset Wisconsin Memorial Day weekend.  This years massive two day blast will feature over 25 bands including Green Day, Soul Asylum, Scott Weiland, Brother Cane, Semisonic and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, just to name a few.

ABC is considering moving The Drew Carey Show to Tuesday nights, where it will go head to head with NBC superhit Frasier.  Drew has trounced his current time slot rival Third Rock From The Sun, but the conflict may be avoided if Frasier is moved to the Thursday slot vacated by Seinfeld.

Talk show titan Jerry Springer has allegedly been caught on tape during a sexual tryst with 21 year old porn star Kendra Jade and her 28 year old step mom, both previous guests on his show.  Springer is reportedly trying to take action against the London tabloid that released the story citing his right to privacy.  Puh- lease...

Some staffers on Seinfeld tried to take a piece of the show with them.  Days after the final taping, security cameras recorded the theft of the intercom off the wall of Jerry's apartment, along with a few other items.  All were returned after an angry call from the show's star, who kept the door to his digs for himself.

Billy Joel postponed the last two shows on his East Coast mini-tour due to a respiratory infection.  He is expected to be ready for his upcoming world tour with Elton John.

And while on the topic of Sir Elton, it seems as if there has been a split with the international superstar singer and his manager of over 27 years, John Reid.  Reid has helped John amass a quarter of a billion dollar fortune to date.

NBC is planning a 12-hour epic based on early stories in the Old Testament and culminating in the birth of Christ. The series will be shown over six consecutive nights, with an estimated price tag of $150 million.

Marvel announced they have teamed with SealMaster Racing Team in the sponsorship of a NASCAR truck enhanced with an emblazoned image of Thor.

Terry Farrell, who has said at several conventions she will not be returning as Dax on Deep Space Nine, has landed the female lead in the new CBS sitcom, Becker starring Ted Danson.

Crime novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential) will write his first TV drama pilot, L.A. Sheriff''s Homicide, which may pop up as a midseason replacement on NBC.

Seagram's is reportedly in talks with Philips Electronics to buy its 75% share of the

PolyGram music and entertainment operation.
