Off The Record...

Limp Bizkit

Significant Other

The follow up to their massively successful Three Dollar Bills album, Limp Bizkit show no sign of slowing down or deviating from a sound they helped pioneer.  Raw, and full bore power, Significant Other may be the mainstream breakthrough for the boys.  If music needed a shot in the arm from the sappy teen mainstream, this is it.

At The Movies...

Summer Of Sam

Spike Lee transports us to the year 1977 when serial killer David Berkowitz, known as Son of Sam, terrorizes all of New York City.  Still, this is not your typical Hollywood slasher film.  Lee never lets us inside a detective's car, but focuses instead on a tight-knit circle of Bronx neighbors and the gritty details of New York street life.  A dizzying spectacle propelled by period music.

On Video...

Waking Ned Devine
Wonderful tale about the inhabitants of a small Irish town who attempt to find out who in their midst has won the 6 million pound national lottery. When the winner, Ned Devine, is found dead, the townsfolk join together in an outrageous scheme to claim the money: one of them impersonates the dead man. One of the better comedies to come out of the British Isles in years.

The Buzz...

Best-selling author Tom Clancy recently wed free-lance journalist Alexandra Marie Llewellyn in an Episcopal church ceremony followed by a reception at the posh St. Regis hotel.

It looks like a Mary Tyler Moore Show update project is gonna make it after all.

Moore has committed to star in and executive-produce a two-hour ABC made-for-TV movie based on the original Emmy-winning 1970’s CBS comedy.  Co-star Valerie Harper is also in advanced negotiations to join the project.

A recent auction at Sotheby's found a 1963 painting of Tarzan by Frank Frazetta selling for $49,450 while a 1938 copy of Action Comics #1, the introduction of Superman, went for $46,000 to an unidentified dealer-collector. Only 75 copies of Action Comics #1 are known to exist and only one is in mint condition.

Columbia Pictures' Invisible Man picture The Hollow Man starring Kevin Bacon has halted production to allow co-star Elizabeth Shue to recover from an injured heel.

Christina Ricci may join the cast of Bless The Child, a supernatural, Rosemary's Baby type movie starring Kim Basinger and Jimmy Smits.

The Mummy actor Brendan Fraser and director Stephen Sommers may work together again soon to remake Around the World in 80 Days.

Saving Private Ryan's Tom Sizemore will play an astronaut in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Mars which also stars Val Kilmer and Carrie Anne Moss.

Pop star Britney Spears may star in MTV's modernization of Alice in Wonderland. Meanwhile, Fox 2000 is reportedly working on a similar project called Looking Glass.

Jim Carrey is now deciding which of two comic remakes to take on, either The Incredible Mr. Limpet about a man turned into a fish or Get Smart the spy spoof. If he passes on Limpet, the role may go to Mike Myers or Robin Williams.

A full-length Pokemon animated film will debut on Kids WB on Nov. 12.  Pokemon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back will be preceded by a 22-minute short, Pikachu's Vacation.  Warner Bros. has secured worldwide rights (excluding Asia) to distribute the film.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Hasbro is voluntarily recalling about 618,000 Star Wars Lightsaber toys for repair. The spring in the battery compartments of these toys can dislodge, causing the batteries to overheat or rupture.

Bassist Jeff Ament says Pearl Jam will start recording the follow-up to Yield in October.

Elton John is in talks with a London finance house to secure a 25 million pound ($40 million) loan.  The singer was spending as much as 250,000 pounds a week on his credit cards.

An anonymous collector paid a record amount for a California wine.  A lot of nine bottles of 1941 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon sold for $58,600 during the Zachys-Christie's auction.

Nicole DeBoer will star with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez in Rated X, Showtime's biopic of porno kings Artie and Jim Mitchell.

Cash machines at Bank United have incorporated iris-scanning capability that allows customers access to their account with an ATM card. An earlier scan of customers eyes is stored in the banks database.
