At The Movies...

Sleepy Hollow

Set in 1799, Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp), plays a New York City constable who is pioneering the science of crime detection.  He arrives in the village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious series of decapitations.  Is the Headless Horseman a fake designed to dispatch people standing in the way of an inheritance, and if not, what exactly does the monster want?   Tim Burton achieves the stylized atmosphere of a black-and-white film with muted colours, so that every drop of blood stands out in bold, gleaming relief.

Off The Record...

Will Smith

Willenium

Willennium closes out the 20th century with a varied party disc loaded with guest artists and featuring the work of numerous producers.  Most of these tracks can't miss, since they base their grooves on great tunes.  Will2K mines the Clash's Rock the Casbah, Da Butta sets its raps to LTD's Back in Love Again, and the theme to Wild Wild West pretty much wouldn't exist if not for Stevie Wonder's brilliantly groovin' I Wish.  Mr Smith still aims to promote a cleaner style, taking a crack at rappers who can't write a verse without a curse.  In the end, you’re bound to have fun listening to this.

On Video...

The Iron Giant

A magical film that delivers a touching story of friendship.  The Iron Giant focuses on a rambunctious child named Hogarth who befriends a mechanical marvel.  Set in 1957, when paranoia and the Soviet threat were both at an all time high, Hogarth and the Giant must combine forces to overcome the military that view him as a monster and a threat.  Wonderful animation that leaves the viewer with awe, and a compelling moral that teaches us that humans can be the least humane of all.  A timeless classic.

The Buzz...

After months of speculation that Spice Girl Victoria Adams would launch a career in Hollywood with a coveted role in the big-screen update of the blockbuster 1970s TV series Charlie's Angels, Columbia Pictures announced that the part would instead go to Ally McBeal’s Lucy Liu.  She’ll star opposite Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz.

Paramount continues to give Tom Clancy first-rate scribe treatment.  The studio has hired Crimson Tide screenwriter Michael Schiffer to adapt Clancy's best-selling novel and computer game Rainbow Six.

Hasbro's WCW trading card game will include studio and live-action shots of wrestling superstars Sting, Goldberg, DDP, Ric Flair, Bret The Hitman Hart, The Total Package, Gorgeous George and others.  Products will be released beginning in the spring of 2000.

Fox has picked up two full years of That '70s Show, which will guarantee it a spot on the air until at least 2002.  That also means producer Carsey-Werner will have enough episodes of the sitcom to sell it in off-network syndication.

Are Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger eyeing the altar?  The New York Post dishes that the two are planning a wedding soon.  The 37-year-old actor and 30-year-old actress reportedly got to be more than friends while filming Me, Myself, and Irene.

A one-two punch of James Bond and the Headless Horseman knocked kiddie fave Pokemon from the top of the movie charts.  The World Is Not Enough the latest James Bond film debuted with $37.2 million, the biggest Bond opening ever.  Also setting a record, Sleepy Hollow took in $30.5 million its first weekend out.  This marks the first time in box office history that two movies have opened to more than $30 million each in the same weekend.

Producer/distributor Rigel will team with Canada's Fireworks Entertainment to bring RoboCop back as a one hour action series in the vein of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

If you think you can't get enough of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, well, neither can ABC.  The network is considering extending the show's current 15-night run a few extra nights.

Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has signed an exclusive two-year deal with 20th Century Fox studios that's expected to put Alexander back in a prime-time series by 2001.  It's a pact that gives Alexander creative control over the series.

Danny DeVito is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the supernatural religious thriller Revelations, his first time at the helm since 1996's Matilda.
