At The Movies...

The Bone Collector

An in the line of duty has left a New York City detective (Denzel Washington) a quadriplegic.  A feisty young policewoman enters the picture that discovers a gruesomely mutilated corpse.  At first Rhyme refuses to lend his impressive deductive reasoning powers to helping solve the murder, but after a quick look through the evidence, Rhyme becomes intrigued when he realizes he is looking at the act of a brutal killer who is taunting authorities with arcane clues.  A chilling, spine tingling adventure into madness that makes movies fun to go to.

Off The Record...

The Fox

Rondelles

The Rondelles burst out of the gate in 1998 when they released Fiction, Romance And Fast Machines.  The Albuquerque trio, which was not yet out of high school at the time, mixed simple punk structure, new wave style and classic girl-group sass into infectious lo-fi fun. The band, now residing in Washington, DC, has since sharpened its hooks and reached beyond its first album's spare simplicity.  The Fox boasts more complex, musical arrangements that lose none of the group's initial charm.  These kids may have recently graduated, but they're totally immune to the sophomore slump.

On Video...

Black Mask

A fast-paced Hong Kong action film released in the States this year to capitalize on the cachet of Jet Li after his great appearance in Lethal Weapon 4.  Story revolves around a gang of genetically engineered humans who go after cops and bad guys alike.  Li, of course, is fabulous as one of the androids that hasn't turned bad and must fight them single-handedly.  A showcase for Li's wonderful martial arts expertise.

The Buzz...

The Entertainment Software Rating Board launched a national education campaign to help parents choose the right computer and video games for children.  Under its rating system, a symbol on the front of a game's box tells for which age group the product is appropriate.  EC is for early childhood, ages 3 and older, E for everyone ages 6 and older, T for teen ages 13 and older, M for mature ages 17 and older, and A for adults only.   Content descriptions will provide information about violence, sexual themes, language, and even drinking alcohol and tobacco usage.

Jerry Seinfeld, television's consummate sitcom bachelor for nine years, is taking the real-life plunge.  The comedian popped the question to Jessica Sklar.  Seinfeld is 45, Sklar, 28.

And while on the wedding theme, comedian Ben Stiller (There’s Something About Mary) proposed to his girlfriend, The Wedding Singer actress Christine Taylor.

Former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy, who virtually disappeared from Hollywood's radar when her NBC sitcom was canceled almost two years ago, has signed a development deal with 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting.

KISS will play a New Year's Eve gig at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver with tickets ranging from $79.93 to $129.93.  The band will record the Vancouver performance for a new live album to be titled KISS Alive 4.

Since Ashley Judd won’t return for Along Came A Spider, the sequel to Kiss the Girls, who’s in the running for the female lead?  Try both Angelina Jolie and Wynona Ryder.

John Cleese portrays the comic sidekick of Bond gadgetman Q in the forthcoming The World Is Not Enough.  Cleese has already signed an agreement with the series producers to reprise his role in three future films.

Columbia Pictures has purchased the rights to a script from Michael Valle that relates a battle between two of literature’s greatest characters.  Sherlock Holmes and the Vengeance of Dracula is being likened to the recent revisionist horror/adventure The Mummy.

Television viewers still want to be millionaires.  ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire drew an estimated 26 million viewers upon its return Sunday night, more than any night during its hit run in the late summer.

The Goo Goo Dolls will be taping a segment for the popular children's show Sesame Street’s 31st season. The segment, which won't be airing until next year, features the band dueting with Elmo on a still-to-be-determined song.
