Off The Record

The Go - The Go
Pity the poor Go, whose timing was just a little bit off when they released their debut album, Whatcha Doin', way back in 1999. Four years ago, the world simply wasn't ready for a retro-outfitted, greasy garage-rock band with a homebase of Detroit and a guy named Jack White playing a chinty, Sears-bought guitar. The Go have definitely maintained their no-frills, all-thrills approach here on this album even with the absence of Mr. White. This is a record that would sound mighty awesome on the radio and that's where a band as flat-out rockin' as the Go deserves to be. Obviously these past four years have been well-spent. Now it's time for the world to catch up to this killer group once again. This time, let's hope people do not pass the Go.

On DVD

Johnny English

When the British Secret Service uncovers a plot to steal the Crown Jewels, Agent Number One is quickly put on the case and just as quickly killed. And when all the other able agents are murdered, only one remains Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson), an office-bound junior intelligence worker who bumbles his way onto the case. Armed with a highly specialized automobile and high-tech gadgetry, English is Britain's last hope to catch the thief and stop a plot that threatens world security. A capable Secret agent spoof.

The Buzz...

Director Cameron Crowe is eyeing Orlando Bloom to replace Ashton Kutcher opposite Kirsten Dunst in the ensemble comedy Elizabethtown, which Crowe also wrote. Kutcher dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

James Gandolfini, aka Tony Soprano of The Sopranos, is engaged to Lora Somoza, whom he met four years ago on the set of The Mexican when she was working as an assistant to director Gore Verbinski.

Walt Disney Animation is set to begin work on A Day with Wilbur Robinson, which will be a computer animated film set for release in 2006. The film will be an adaptation of William Joyce's 1990 book, a comedy-adventure about a boy genius who creates a time machine.

Last call for frasier

After some brief talk of keeping the show going for a 12th season next fall, NBC said that its five-time Emmy-winning comedy, Frasier, will call it quits in May.

Quentin Tarantino fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer for the conclusion to Kill Bill. Rumors about Kill Bill, Vol. 2 moving to an April 16th, 2004 release (rather than its original planned release on February 20) have been confirmed.

A film adaptation of E.B. White's children's book, Trumpet of the Swan, is in the works. The movie will use CGI animated characters mixed in with a live setting.

Songs from Korn, Fuel, Lost Prophets and Good Charlotte will be featured on the upcoming NFL Street video game.

Adam Shankman, who recently helmed Bringing Down the House, will direct Vin Diesel in The Pacifier.

Kevin Costner, who made the Oscar-winning Dances With Wolves and last year's Open Range plans to make another Western titled Horizon, which he would also star in.

Get ready to welcome Rudy, Richard, Tina and other favorite Survivor castaways for a rematch on the upcoming Survivor: All-Stars competition. The chosen 18, representing all seven of CBS' past Survivor seasons, face off when the hit reality-challenge series returns for its new edition after the Super Bowl telecast on Feb. 1.

Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin DuBrow is currently recording an album of his favorite cover tunes from the 1970's, and will be released on Shrapnel Records sometime early 2004.

Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses 2 has been greenlighted by Lions Gate. Zombie recently said that the film is “much darker and more serious. It's a gritty crime movie. There's nothing campy or wacky at all."

Ozzy Osbourne announced that he has axed his upcoming 20-date tour of Britain to give him time to recover fully from his accident on an auto-terrain vehicle last month.
