The Butterfly Effect
Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher) has lost track of time. From an early age, crucial moments of his life have disappeared into a black hole of forgetting, his boyhood marred by a series of terrifying events he can’t remember. Determined to do something now that he was incapable of doing then, Evan purposely travels back in time, his present-day mind occupying his childhood body, in an attempt to re-write history and spare his friends and loved ones from traumatic experiences. But every time Evan changes something in the past, he returns to the present to find that his actions have unexpected and disastrous consequences. The Butterfly Effect is a suspenseful, provocative thriller that represents an intriguing new direction for Ashton Kutcher.

The Butterfly Effect

Blake Edwards's disturbing 1962 adaptation of J.P. Miller's Playhouse 90 story, starring Jack Lemmon as Joe Clay, remains an anomaly in a body of work largely devoted to comedy. Clay, who likes to hoist a few, meets Kirsten who doesn't drink, and after a short time they marry. After a few more months, Kirsten is able to put away as much liquor as her husband. As the years pass and time isn't kind he begins to realize that both of them are alcoholics. They move into her father's nursery to dry out, but following a couple of weeks of sobriety, they go on a binge. Lemmon is at his best in this shattering portrait of a couple consumed by addiction. Refreshingly free of the moralistic clichιs of this genre, its depiction of the glamor enjoyed by drinking in previous decades throws light on the ease with which many were able to slide into oblivion.

Bille Woodruff (Honey) is set to direct Queen Latifah's Beauty Shop, which will be a spin-off movie based on her character in Barbershop 2: Back in Business. She becomes a stylist but when her boss takes credit for her work, she opens her own shop where a clash between her uptown and downtown clients ensues.

CBS is looking to expand its reign of ratings domination by adding a third edition of CSI to its roster. The original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, set in Las Vegas, is the nation's most-watched show, averaging 26 million viewers per week. Spinoff CSI: Miami is no slouch either, holding down the number six slot in the weekly Nielsen ratings. CSI: New York is scheduled to bow this fall.

In a startling accusation, one of Halle Berry's former beaus has pinpointed her one-time boyfriend Wesley Snipes as the man who busted her eardrum. R&B singer Christopher Williams, who hooked up with the actress in the early '90s, says he's setting the record straight because many have assumed that he was the one to hit Berry so hard that she lost most of the hearing in her right ear. Berry has never divulged the identity her attacker.

The hit American sitcom Friends may prove too risque for Chinese television. All television in China is government-controlled, and China Central Television had planned to begin airing Friends this year.
