At the Movies

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Joel (Jim Carrey), discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine (Kate Winslet), has undergone an experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong, which alters other things about his memories as well. Well written but heady at times.

Finally, a movie that boasts an amazing cast, yet doesn't fall short of anyone's expectations. All three leads (Naomi Watts, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro) give amazing performances. While the caliber of the performances are of highest grade (expect Watts to receive her first Oscar nod, Del Toro with his second and Penn with back-to-back), the timeframes that flash before our eyes is what makes the film so compelling. It involves three people who become mysteriously intertwined after a strange car accident, but any more details would spoil the film. An incredible piece of cinematic art.

The Buzz...

Barbra Streisand is close to making her movie comeback as Ben Stiller's mom in Meet the Fockers, the sequel to the blockbuster 2000 comedy Meet the Parents. Streisand is in final talks to join the all-star cast, which reunites Stiller with original cast members Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, and will also star Dustin Hoffman as Stiller's father.

Janet Jackson is returning to America's airwaves, but she's not being trusted with a live performance just yet. She will perform a concert on ABC's Good Morning America later this month, but her portion of the show will air on a five-second video and audio delay.

Chris Tucker is in negotiations to star in Money Talks 2 as well as Rush Hour 3, both under development at New Line Cinema. New Line is already looking to get Charlie Sheen to return for the Money Talks sequel as well.
